Cavalry is brutal in those battles with big cities though. Cavalry can tear all of your units to shreds in the open.

You can go to the Gamespot forum where it is being discussed. And yes, according to one person (I have not tried it yet) you can attack a city, but it is a little different.
If you sail into the city, then it is a land battle, that person said to hit the spacebar (?), but I do know that their cannons are really long range.
It is the Classic game put in the Hall of Fame by Gamespot when it first came out back in 1987, true to the gameplay, but more has been added. Also Sid and Jeff are a kidder about the dancing, but info from the Governor's daughter may be important, but right now, I am stumbling over my two left feet, or my peg leg and my other foot.
It is Adventure, but with Strategy (mainly) and harder with RPG elements of gaining through the ranks, and very open-ended. Of course, you are playing against the other Top 10 Pirates in the game (computer controlled), and I have moved up from rank #9 from rank #10 in that List.
There is only scant info in the manual about the Silver Train during the time period of 1600-1620, and the game mentions the Spanish Treasure Fleet during only the menu in the game selecting the time period to play during the 1620-1660 time.
But others have found the Spanish Treasure Fleet (well one ship perhaps), in the default (gain some momentum - practice level of Apprentice), and others clain that each Nationality actually has Treasure Ships. But again Sid and Jeff are not telling much about them, and some of the Players did not know anything about that.
But, to me, to beat Henry Morgan (in the Top Ten List) which by the way has way more points, there has to be those elements in the game.
Unlike the original game, you will not be told as much, except perhaps, from the barmaiden in town, and that usually is only about one Spanish Treasure Ship (which carrys more gold than the other Nationalities).
True to it original form, the graphics are 3D, and dolphins may follow behind your ship, and the game may be tougher (it seems to be to me), and the ship sail faster, but in game the resolution of the graphics can be changed, in game.
The keyboard can be mapped by the KeyBoard.ini file, while there is also a config.ini file.
My computer a 1.8~gHz Celeron is listed as slow.
So the line in the config.ini file "IsMachineSlow=1" is set to true. I think that only has to do with the action scenes of swordfighting the other ship's Captain when needed, and sneaking out of town after being thrown in jail (for that was way slow, when I changed that line above to 0 or false, and now have changed it back to one).
The KeyBoard.ini file is there so laptops can play the game (with a numberpad) but the NumLock is not on, in the game. It is better to use the ol' right hand to play, while the cursor (sword - which changed to a ship's wheel when loading up the game or so) can also be used to see all the info on the different screens of the game.
It is fun, but may be harder, since your crew will not stay content for as long, or happy, as such.
The dancing can be followed using the hand jestures of the daughter except where stated up above.
The ship also seems to sail faster, than before, probably to make it harder, as the map of the Caribbean, is more (way more) detailed. But still I can slide right between those rocks and the shore line of those small islands.
There is also many things added, like Indian settlements, Jesuits settlements, changing economies, and a living map in the game.
The price on me head is on 6000 gold coins, but someone stated that he was up to 55,000 gold coins on his head.
Now, you lowly landlubbers, try your hand at Pirates!
Ya, ol' seadogs.
Ya, Hardies!
Yo! Ho! HO! And a barrel of rum.
Make some dancin' go better!
And, it has beautiful graphics (although by some of today's game they may seem less) but I like them. Some people have some problems with the DVD version (Limited Edition) but I bought the CD version, and have had not one problem with the game. They have mentioned some stability problems are some computers, but it plays perfectly on my computer.
Whether a patch is needed and some faults still remain in the game, I have not played all the way through yet on any level, but other have, and it seems to be working quite allright, or correctly!
Now, go fetch me some rum, for my cup is empty!
Before you walk the Plank!
YAR!
There are special items in the game, to help, with dancing and many other things, and all of that so, there is more in this game, but basically the same game as before when it came out in 1987, and put in the Hall of Fame back then by Gamespot!
With the wind to me back, and the sea up ahead, yeeee!
That little ship moves right along now.
More ships, more action in the graphics, more fun, than ever before!
Animation of a Disney- like cut scenes in certain parts of the game, and the Land Battles are turn-based, and way more enhanced than ever before. Land battles will be a major event now, marching across the land to Panama. Plus finding your lost family by the evil Baron Raymondo (?) and treasure map, and other Pirates in the game to fight, along with the Spanish, the English, the French, and the Dutch!
I give it a 9.7, but then I may just be partial!
But then, perhaps, I am not as dasterdly enough Pirate yet!
And don't forget the older movie -- Roman Polanski's -- Pirates! with Walter Matheuw (sp) to watch. It will be funny, and don't eat the Frog!
(It is about Capt. Red (Robert Bartholeumew) (sp) who is one of the Pirates! in the game also -- but then the movie is downright fun to watch also, and funny!)
Rated PG, I think, but a couple of scenes may have you turn your head, but it is about being a Pirate!

I've made it to 26 000 coins myself. The Spanish didn't like me making grabs at their colonies - you can sack them by anchoring down right next to the city and then marching towards it in treasure seeking mode -, their military payrolls AND their treasure ships. I've plundered a French treasure ship once, too.
And I'm #6 in the Pirate Top Ten, woot! I'm a British Duke, a French Baron and a Dutch Colonel, but only a Spanish Captain - but I had a Jesuit mission send a Brother to plead for mercy in my behalf, and now I intend to sack some looty British and French outposts to gain rank with the Spanish. I think the system with the nationalities and your allegiances is flawed, though, you shouldn't be able to advance to highest rank with them ALL. You should have to stick to one of the nations to actually manage anything, whilst irrecovably alienating the others. That'd make for variety in the game and it's just silly to me when I can sack British cities and still get free repairs and upgrades from them.

The rank is only by the Govenor of the town, or city. It is not from the King of the Nationality. If bothering his town too much (with war on ships, or letting Pirates raid ships near the city), then eventually they will seek you down, and hunt you down.
