And in the Glorious Reign of Betakamen III, a city was founded. A small city to start, but one which under the warmth and wisdom of the Sun is destined to grow into a landmark of civilization.

And the people began work on a palace....

While it is true that the land was fertile and the cattle fat, Hattusas’ real power came from those who worshiped Hiyon and Attu, the merchants and artisans. Through long contact with the migrating heard the Hittite artisans had grown adept at working with bone and hide and their craftsmanship was prized through out Hatti. The merchants maintained wide contact with the regions minor tribes while the cities oligarchs busied themselves with politics and petty jealousy. Like merchants all through the ages the great power of these people is that they were happy to collect the profits and let others have the glory.

There is a tradition in India to start your life bathing in the sacred Ganges River and to go there to bathe again when you feel that your time has come. From this tradition came the particular fashion of ceremonial burial in India which involves incineration of the deceased and scattering of his ashes in the sacred Ganges. That way the deceased and the sacred river remain together for all eternity.

Babylon - our history
Part I, Chapter III

(Anonymous)

For a while, no extraordinary things happened. The preparations for scouting were progressing smoothly, the quarry was getting ready. We heard first stories of other major towns emerging around the world, but for now, they were only stories.

Nice Ottoman there Gramps!!!

The Egyptians were pleased with their new city. Thebes was growing daily, the road north led to strange yet wonderful places they could only imagine. The Pharoah's first military unit was almost ready to go forth into the world, and the first mining project was underway.

All in all, the Sun God has been kind to the people of Egypt. They are truly blessed.

The merchants and artisans grew rich, but the Hittites had been a nomadic people for many generations and tradition gave respectability to those with the largest herds. These great families had seen, or at least heard rumors of the duplicity of the worshipers of Hiyon and Attu. They made a show of reverence on the holy days but when no one was looking, took their offerings back. If a people losses the favor of the gods their future will surely be bleak, on this all the patriarchs agreed. On which gods favor does the future depend however is a question that they had more trouble coming to agreement on. In the mean time they built their homes on the edge of town were they would have room for their cattle and were they would be farther from the shops and markets that called to the godless.

Tired of ads?

Much growth has occurred over the years since the Carthaginians planted their feet in a single settlement, although hardships had followed them as well. Scouts sent into the nearby jungle disappeared and were never heard from again. Some believed that crossing the jungle perimeter went against the Gods, and others felt that wild monsters roamed beneath the thick shelter of leaves.

After much discussion and heated arguments, no decision could be made. A small group of courageous men gathered together to test weapons, and started to form a group that would brave the Jungle, even without the support of the elders….

All animosity was put aside, or at least hidden, on feast days that happened often enough. There was the celebration of Aspalis. The marking of spring when the herd moved north and the young boys became men by participating in the great hunt. There was a celebration to Hepatu, on the solstice. It was a daylong celebration that included wrestling and carnivals. There was the fall feast for Telepinu to thank her for the harvest. The whole community would go out to the fields and gather arm fulls of grains and nuts, then feast on fresh halki and wianna. There was the winter solstice, a day of fasting followed by a night of bon fires and dancing out of respect for Lelwani’s power over life and death. Finally there was the passing of the North Star across the brow of Ursa Major, the closing of another year and a day of thanks to Antu for creating another.

(I am OK to change the name of this game if it would work better for others. How about Lava Land - given the opening pic. The game could simply be called Lava).

Save to smellymummy.

And the Egyptians completed the great palace of Thebes - and Betakamen was pleased.

because I stress efficiency..not slave driving but efficiency..better efficiency means a more profitable production possibility..NOT the other way around..
