His former rivals stood before him, they had not been offered chairs, waiting for his judgment. He began to lay out his plan in a frail whisper his new allies strained to hear. That was what his voice had become after too many conspiracies and too many imagined spies. He was invigorated by the prospect that Ahimelech would be more of a challenge than this lot of fools.

The priests of Aspalis, with a not inconsiderable power of their, were eager to assist Muwatalli preserve the status quo. That is how a procession of robed priests came to the site of construction with pleas to Aspalis to forgive the workers and craftsmen still laying the foundation of the large building. A building to store grains was an afront to the generosity of Aspalis who provided a bountiful hunt every spring. Surely he would not abandon his people unless they lost faith. The laborers were all professed worshipers of Hiyon and Attu, but like all Hittites had great respect for the God of the Hunt. Confusion and fear spread throughout the guild and work on the granary quickly came to a halt.
