I second the nomination for the Grateful Dead. I kinda like Sugar Magnolia in a way, that's about it. They were just a lot of weak tunes propped up by smarmy folksiness and trippy logos. Not really bad, but not that good.

I also dislike James Taylor, whichever wuss sings "Sweet Caroline," and Blind Melon, though nobody cares about them today. The Doors aren't that good, but they aren't absolutely wretched.

Finally, for now at least, there's something absolutely appalling about Dave Matthews. Maybe it's because one of my old roommates played him like 24/7, but everything he ever played sounds soulless and bland to me.

No one else has mentioned the Beach Boys (I did back on page 1)? Really, every time I read something suggesting "Pet Sounds" is comparable to, or even better than, "Sgt. Pepper," I'm utterly baffled. And now the reconstruction of "Smile" is being treated like they found the rest of Schubert's Unfinished Symphony.

All this attention without any refernce to the central fact that all their songs sound exactly the same. Honestly, I just don't get it.

My vote most definitely goes to the Rolling Stones. Their songs sound the same and most often are just covers of old blues tunes anyhow.

Yeah, the lyrics were what attracted me to them back in the day. I'm currently out of the Metallica phase but still listen to the older ones.

One of the things that boggles my mind on a daily basis is just what complete **** radio is now. After reading some of the choices here, I now understand what has happened to the medium. It has nothing to do with corporate take-overs and bean-counters, its just that their current target audience are tasteless. The "Reynolds Girls" were the voice of the future.

Dissident; I like metal, I listen to Korn on a frequent basis and I like other metal bands as well such as Sepultura. Gun's and Roses are vastly superior to Metallica too, for some reason I compare the two.

GnR only had one good album. The other double album had a couple of good songs, the rest were crap.

a comprehensive list:

Whitney Houston- or any R&B singer after the year 1980

Stevie Wonder

Beatles

Elvis is the #1 overrated person

Rolling Stones

Jimmy Buffet

Grateful Dead

Guns and Roses

Garth Brooks

Modonna

Britney Spears

what I really want to rant about is Jimmy buffet. Why is this guy so popular? His lyrics to his most famous song (margaritaville) are depressing. Yeah I listen to depressing music, so I'm not one to talk. But the majority of americans are optimists and prefer uplifting music. Or am I wrong about that?

as for why I like Metallica.

For one thing, I relate to James Hetfield. Sometimes I think he is me . But with the ability to play guitar and sing (sort of). Even on their last album which everyone hates, I identified with some of the lyrics. songs like Sweet Amber and Unnamed Feeling.

And musically, well I like heavy hitting metal. I like a strong guitar sound, but with reasonably good bass playind and drums. For a strong guitar sound listen to songs like the Four Horseman or One (my 2 favourite songs). Some people do not like the overpowering distorted guitar. They feel it's noisy and sounds like a chainsaw. To each their own.

forgot about some. Pride is a good song, New Years day is good. With our without you is kind of sappy, but okay. I still haven't found what I'm looking for is okay.

I haven't heard of the others. It takes more than a few good songs for me to endure their presence on commercials every 15 minutes during football.

the thing about GNR and hair bands.

When their first album came out, I never really considered them a hair band. Though their hit Sweet Child o' Mine was a questionable song. The worst song on the album, yet is was their biggest hit. But the album was close to being hair band material. It just had more of an edge to it (especially songs like NightTrain and it's so easy). I definately don't consider it grunge. How could it be?

But subsequent albums were definately hair and material. November Rain anyone? Don't Cry. Patience. all crap.

Other hair bands. Motley Crue of course. Poison. Cinderella (though I admit I like a couple of their songs). Bon Jovi. Skid Row (thoghh they were a littel heavier than most). Warrant. And many other crappy bands. Don't forget Twisted Sister.
