Your point is meaningless. The rights that the ACLU is taking away are rights that have been around for over 200 hundred years in this country and still no one ever called it a theocracy.

What 'rights'? I don't see in the Bill of Rights a right to force your religion on school children in public school. I don't see a right infringing on the rights of the mother. I don't see a right to bash gays.

Which rights are you talking about and where do they come from? The Bible, perhaps?

So are you denying that they are defending those Christians? Are they taking fake clients? If they had Christians so much as you say, why would they put on their website that they are defending Churches?

Perhaps because YOU ARE FULL OF ****!

My point is that there are certain rights that we've had in the past and are being taken away.

Here is something fun from a site. It's a third party, but one that is a fan of the ACLU .

http://c4tav.blogspot.com/

quote:
Randi Rhodes, of the Randi Rhodes show on Air America Radio, recently did a survey of ACLU cases supporting the rights of Christians. These include: defending the rights of street preachers on the strip in Las Vegas, supporting baptisms in a park in Virginia, challenging the censorship on religious grounds of high school yearbook entries, defending students "punished for distributing candy canes with religious messages", challenging zoning decisions restricting African-American churches, supporting a minister who refused for religious reasons to have his picture taken for a drivers license, and demanding the rights of prisoners to possess religious articles such as rosaries in prison, among many other cases.

The ACLU has also defended Rush Limbaugh in his attempt to keep his medical records confidential and worked with Jerry Falwell to allow churches to incorporate. In short, the ACLU is exactly what is claims to be: An organization dedicated to defending the civil liberties of all Americans and, far from being an anti-Christian organization, is equally dedicated to the rights of Christians as it is to the rights of Muslims, Jews, atheist, and all other Americans. The Center for Traditional American Values wishes to affirm its wholehearted support for the ACLU and rejects those who seek to undermine its work based on lies and selective memory.

Rights? More like privilege. When a privileged group faces the prospect of a level playing field (losing their privileged position), they typically don't like it. A case in point would be Sunnis in Iraq. Luckily for us, Christian fundies in the US haven't resorted to violence. I wouldn't put it past them, though.

This country has no official religion. To the extent we have a national religion, the Constitution is our Old Testament and the Bill of Rights is our New Testament. To those who want to turn my country into a theocracy, I respond with a hearty **** you! Believe in your invisible friend(s) if you want, but quit trying to force me to do what he/she/they say!

The law against murder isn't based on the commandment. They dovetail nicely, sure, but no society can do very well without laws against killing people out of hand.

To head this off, Dino, I'll put it this way:

Laws must have more justification than "God said so" for me to accept them. The law against murder has clear benifits to society, regardless of what "God" may or may not have said. Same with theft, etc.

That's nice. I do, since I love them and they deserve honor, IMO.

But I'm sure glad there is no law requiring it.

It was. Forgive me for not being amused. First, I'm touchy on this subject. Second, reading Mr. Nice Guy's posts got my blood up. Third, it's early (9am for me) and I'm in a cubicle.

My initial response was a simple without argument. I probably should have left it that way.

p.s. Spiff, why not a cult that requires something fun? NYE might be on to something, actually. He sacrifices M&M's to the godz while playing Civ. See? That's FUN.

The problem, Berz, is that the Second Amendment does not apply to the states.
