Vote what the music in cIV should be like. Got spare money?

Lets see how this goes.

Make sure you only tick one (or none) in each of the sections (except the last one)

Remember, if you tick "Cultural", "Age specific" and "Heavy" you are actually saying that you want Heavy Cultural Music that is Age dependant (Age Specific means the music changes appropriately for each era you are in).

Put an end to popups!

Who voted for the lines?

Anyway, my vote goes to both Cultural and Uncultural, Age Specific, Soft (I don't like music which could distract me), both Dramatic and Undramatic.

Good poll, Sn00py.

It only lacks a banana option... Unless we consider the lines as the banana option...

Would recommend unobtrusive ambient stuff. Bit like the original Worms or Fallout, if you can remember their music off-hand.

Either way, a folder where you can put links to your favourite MP3s, in the style of GTA3, would keep most people happy if they hated the default music.

Both cultural and uncultural, soft, dramatic and non-dramatic. Don't really care if it changes by age. But some faster/more dramatic tracks are a must. Also, have it work fine with another media player in the background if I choose to listen to my music.

i voted for the lines... because it was possible to do so.

I have recently revisited ctp1 and ctp2. Some of the music in those games was quite good. It was be nice to have an edit option to pull the music from civ 1,2,3 or ctp1,2 that want for civ4.

Really, I don't care what it is (hard-rock or Kenny G), as long as it is

WELL PRODUCED!

For corporate guidance, the homies working under His Holiness should check in with the designers at PopTop, which has given us not one, not two, but THREE of the best video game soundtracks to date (all strategy, mind you). They did this by ditching the synthesizers and letting, uh, musicians design the music.

Considering how much interest musicians have concerning the fate and quality of midieval music (not to mention others), there should be plenty of hireable talent out there.

My rant.

I did. This is a protest, because this poll definately needed a banana option. Some people (like me) turn off game music in favor of own CDs/MP3s, you know.

And please, Sid, don't spend time (=money) on music, when you could be developing a really good AI!

I guess I wouldn't mind too much if there's no music. I like the music of the previous games, but like everyone else I haven't listened to it for a while. But do you really think they'd make the game without music?

There's no banana option for obvious reasons.

1. There's going to be music for cIV whether you like it or not.
2. If you don't care about the music, then Firaxis won't be interested in your opinion now will they?

And Modo44, while I agree that AI is probably most important, the AI is done by programmers, music done by the musician, I'm sure there won't be a hindrance on the AI because of the musician. right?

Wrong. You need to pay both the programmers, and the musicians. And the budget doesn't exactly stretch. So, if you get lots of music, you get less good programming. It's a simple trade off. I'd rather have one tune throughout the game, if it pays for a couple more hours of AI-developing.

Poll has interesting results so far: 60% of voters would like age specific music, and this is the only option which has a clear majority.

Of course, the lines show some strong support too.

Suffering from ads?

I voted for 'cultural', 'age specific', and 'dramatic'. For music intensity (i.e. hard vs. soft) I voted 'all' since the type of music played should depend on the current events (i.e. drama) going on in the game. The music shouldn't be constantly 'hard' or constantly 'soft' throughout the game. For example, heavier music could be played during times of war, and lighter music during peace-time.

yeah, that would be good, but I am guessing it would be hard for Firaxis to identify when a large war is in action and when there isn't a large war.

It is the quintessential Civ song. I missed it from Civ3, and it was the reason I always chose Romans in Civ1.

Whatever stock music is fine...hopefully, it would be easy for people to substitute their own MP3s.

Gran Turismo 2 has some great music when watching the replays!

Whatever is initially programmed would be nice if it followed the tempo of the game - as other posters have stated.

I'm in the lines camp. Because I will probably not bother to turn my speakers back on, and instead listen to my stereo system. Nothing like driving imperialist capitalist dogs to their defeat to the sound of Dvorak being played really, really loudly.
