Put an end to popups!

or worse yet, they try to sneak attack and take over property, and pretend they are us to keep the secret..

They would never pass as me though.. they don't know how angry I always am. they're too happy people for that.

Anyone who *****es about the Finns fighting alongside the Nazis should take a minute and read Pekka's post again and think about its implications. The Finns were fighting for survival, not only as an independent nation, but as a people.

There was a touching documentary about the Finnish war children on Swedish tv some time ago. We took care of around 80.000 kids, IIRC. (Not to mention all the additional thousands of kids that came with the refugees from Lappland when the Nazis decided to burn the place)

It was obviously a big tragedy for these kids to leave their family, not knowing when they would see each other again.

Another problem was that many kids were very young when they were adopted by the Swedish families. They thought their new family was their real one and grew up as any Swedish kid. To them, the big tragedy was when they were later sent back to Finland, away from what they regarded as their family. Instead they came to some strangers speaking a strange language they didn't understand.

Many kids were even sent back and forth more than once during the wars. Talk about messed up childhood, being sent away from your family over and over again

Yeah.. my grandma was actually in sweden then.. and her sister. My grandma came back but her sister stayed, until I learned that it wasn't her real blood sister but just the family kid, same age. I actually thought many years they were 'real' sisters, because that's what she told us and we visited there few times too with bigger family to attend her grandsons wedding etc.. And they would attend in here to all kinds of things. So pretty obviously it was a big deal. Of course not all kept in touch, but they did all this time. It's weird because we were always told we have our swedish cousins. I thought they really were our cousins in the traditional way. And then there is the uncle, who we also visited every now and then and he visited in here too many times. That was more.. we call uncle just about anyone but he was her brother then. I never really understood it until few years ago, because they were consistent on cousins, uncles and all that, and they would call us the same too. Well it's not like we don't call ourselves that anymore, we do.
