While the Colts Defense certainly looked better in the first half, the Patriots were clearly beginning to unravel them. The first two quarters consisted of battling for field position, and from what I saw the Patriots did that to a greater extent than the Colts. Also, when I say manhandling them, I mean controlling the drive so that it eats up a ton of time per drive. A slow burn that wears the defense down, you know? Fact is, the Colts' D were on the field for a much greater time than the Pats', and the Patriots were able to capitalize on this advantage in the second half (which is really where my claims of the Patriots offense totally tossing the Colts around comes from).

NFL should abolish the FG and XP Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

The PIT-NYJ game was a classic example of how a part-time special teams player who has a freakish skill of being able to kick a ball between two sticks is given the power to determine the course of NFL history. And it is wrong.

99% of those players bust their ass in the weight rooms, tackling drills, studying plays, double sessions in training camp and all for what - for a Kicker to determine whether they (and their fans) get to realize their Super Bowl dreams or not.

Kickers should still have a place on the team doing kickoffs, but FGs should be replaced with the following point scoring scheme: If your team drives inside the 10-yard line, on fourth down you have the option to walk off the field, take 3 points and kickoff or try for first down. Similarly, if you get inside the 20, take 2 points. Inside the 30 take one point. Extra points - forget them altogether - waste of time.

It's amazing to me that NFL teams seem to have so much trouble finding guys who can reliably kick field goals. I guess the job just isn't very interesting to rugby players or soccer players, huh?

to radical rule changes.

It's the Jets fault for not being able to sustain drives. You can't pin this all on the kicker.

I admit I was alway put off by his low numbers.

But his 2 TD passes proves he can pass when he needs to. And after actually watching him in action he has a good arm. It's not like he can't throw. He still could use a better reciever. They brought Peerless Price in to do this, but he just hasn't developed under that system.

Weather forecast for Sunday in Phila Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

6-8 inches of snow between Sat night and Sun night.

This puts Philly at a disadvantage, imo. Rushing teams like ATL generally fare better in the snow than passing teams like Philly..

Ten reasons Atlanta does not deserve to go to the Super Bowl. Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

1. The city's fans were voted the worst in America by the Sporting News and GQ magazine.

2. The night Henry Aaron hit his 711th career home run on the way to breaking Babe Ruth's record, fewer than 1,500 people showed up at the Braves' ballpark. "This was a pretty strong statement of what Atlanta thought of me and my record," Aaron said.

3. The Georgia Bulldogs outdraw the Falcons.

4. In a span of 15 post-season home games, the Braves failed to sell out nine times.

5. Relatives of the Falcons' once cheered when the team's starting quarterback, Chris Chandler, was injured in a game. When Chandler's wife complained, one of the relatives threw a can of beer at her.

6. The town was called "Loserville, USA," by Sports Illustrated.

7. Its topless Gold Club is known for luring innocent sports stars like Patrick Ewing and Dennis Rodman with sex favors.

8. During the 2003 National League playoffs, not a single local network affiliate agreed to televise the Braves-Cubs series. It was finally broadcast by a low-wattage UHF station.

9. When the Falcons clinched just their third division title in 39 years in a game against the Raiders last month, there were more than 5,000 no-shows at the Georgia Dome. The stadium was half-empty by the fourth quarter.

10. "Frankly, dear, I don't give a damn." - The most famous quote by the town's most famous fan, Rhett Butler.

Atlanta fans are the worst because the city is largely comprised of transfers and emigrants - a third-generation Atlantan is a rare thing indeed!

Even myself, who has gone to Braves/Hawks/Falcons games (as well as the occasional heavyweight fight, the Olympics, etc) am not a native of the city, having moved there when I was 3.

I'm not too sure what the big deal about Aaron's 711th homer... the record was 714, not 710 as implied.

When Aaron hit 715, there were 53,775 people in the stands.

There was no implication that 710 was the record. What was implied was that the guy was so close to the record that night, you'd think that the fans would be out there in large numbers to give support, get a glimpse of a hall-of-famer, perhaps even see Aaron tie the record that night with 4 HRs..

WHen SF came to Philly for a weekend series last summer, all three games were sold out because everyone wanted to see Bonds - and he doesnt even play for us!! Bonds was intentionally walked almost every time he came to the plate, and we booed our own team because they wouldnt pitch to Bonds!!

I like watching Inside the NFL on HBO. Because they show the most trash talking and sideline chatter that you don't get on national telecasts.

kind of cool hearing Jerome Bettis. If there's anyone who deserves a superbowl it's Bettis. I think I'll root for the Steelers this weekend.

Pittsburgh has a chance, Philly doesn't.

actually I shouldn't say that. I really don't know what kind of cold weather experiences the Falcons have. I do know they beat Green Bay in the playoffs. But even 2 years ago Green Bay wasn't that good.

While they may play the SuperBowl in warm weather cities or domes... that won't be the case today. It should be some interesting football. I was surprised to hear that Vick has only played two NFL games in temps below 32 degrees... and has never played in one that's been this cold... should be interesting today

yes but Vick has limited cold weather experience. Except beating Green Bay in Green Bay in the playoffs 2 years ago.
