That's what I thought, but my source says:

The Associated Press Poll has been active since 1936. The AP took their final poll prior to bowl games from 1936 - 1964 and in 1966 and 1967. They took their final poll after the bowl games in 1965 and from 1968 - Current.

But the site also shows a poll from 1934 with Minnesota as the #1 ranked....so I have to say you are correct!

I was torn between '34 and '36, but remembered it being even (I remember the strangest minutiae sometimes) and in the mid-30's.

Anyway...

Who played in the first college bowl game on foreign soil, where was it held, what was it called (any of three names is acceptable), who won and when was it played?

Bonus pat on the back for the score.

Hint: One of the participants dropped football for four years after producing one of the greatest defensive linemen the NFL has ever seen, and now plays in Division 1-AA. The other is currently a member of a BCS conference.

Dammit, I knew the Oscar Robinson question... rather, I knew that's what he meant, averaging a triple-double.

This one, I haven't a friggen clue.

Hmmm. Strahan went to Texas Southern and IIRC they're a Div1-AA team... could they be one?

Is Strahan one of the best defensive linemen the NFL has ever seen? I guess it is subjective, but I'm not sure I'd say yes.

The lineman I'm speaking of was a little before Strahan's time, comrade.

1937. Bacardi Bowl. Havana Cuba. Auburn 7, Villanova 7.

One of my VP's (an Auburn grad) knows way to much about Auburn football History. Auburn...Solomwi...shoulda figured.

Also known as the Rhumba Bowl and Cigar Bowl. That was the sixth or seventh Bacardi Bowl, but the first one to be considered a bowl game, as all the others had been Havana University vs. an American college (I believe LSU played in the first one).

Good job, you Vile. You're up.

Oh, and for those wondering, the defensive lineman out of Villanova that I mentioned is Howie Long.

When Babe Ruth retired in 1935 with 714 home runs only two other players had hit 300 home runs. Who were they?

...which of course means the Babe retired in the middle of the '35 season. Duh.

Sigh. Of course, I know it now. I looked it up, but it only confirmed what I had already figured was the answer. Why I didn't post it, I don't know.

'Tis a bit of a trick question.

Funny that Foxx ended the season with more home runs than the "player yet to be guessed" had at the time of Ruth's retirement

Yeah I got that too, but it didn't have locations and I just didn't take the time to go through each one to find which one was played on foriegn soil. I guess "Bacardi" should have been a clue!

Only other possibility I can think of, since Foxx was my backup choice, is Rogers Hornsby. Not sure if he ever got to 300 or not, though.

Rogers Hornsby had exactly 300 home runs when the Babe retired.
