replace Map Making with Navigation unless your planning on moding the game to move map trading back to MM.

Ok – I posted a very lengthy post on this matter last night – and at about the second last line I hit that don’t-touch-me button on the side of the mouse and flipped back and lost it all.
So, I have had a day to further think about this.
To start, let’s look at it this way. The isdg just died, one of the reasons being lack of interest. In the ptwdg2, the same question has been asked. I suspect interest is waning. Monkey has pretty much survived with 3 players for awhile now. The MZO game, the last time I checked, was pretty quiet. And the first ptwdg still seems to be fairly active.
I’m just not sure there is the energy around here for another game. There has not been an overwhelming response to this thread. And, even with the best of intentions for fast game play, civ4 will be here long before this game is finished, and that very well may create issues. (Then again, looking at the number of Civ2 games still going, maybe it won’t be.)
Now, on the other hand …
This is strictly an intra-Poly game. Which avoids all the recent b.s. and unpleasantness that was associated with the recently buried game. This is a good thing. And we have some great game moderators lined up, so that is another big plus.
We are not playing continents. I have a partly-finished article on Why Continents Suck in Demo Games, so I am pleased to see the proposal as Pangaea. Either that or an island start has the best chance of creating equitable start positions, or at least on Pangaea, getting help if you are ganged up on early.
I like the multi-settler start. I can probably live with AP, but I would rather not. I say put it to a poll. I would like to see Zeus disallowed. And I agree with no ag civs.
And we need to find a way to maintain fast game play. With 6 teams, I am thinking 3 days to play a turn. Each team has an assigned 12 hour period. Or something like that. Maybe we extend it when the game gets more complex. And at the start, maybe some evening or weekend chat multi-turn sessions.
These are small teams. You do not need extensive polling and the like. Faster play is more fun than the absolutely-played-perfect game played slow.
So, I see this more as an expanded team pbem. I had intended to get some dynamic duo games going awhile back – with two players per team to cover the inevitable absences, and player disappearances (where has conmcb gone anyway??).
All this to say, I am up for it. Provided we don’t spend weeks in preparation, and we can have a firm agreement on fast play.
Now – an idea. How about we play on teams with names drawn from a hat. Or maybe an independent third party – like UnO or OPD or Vondrack, can assign six team leads, and then assign folks by random to a team. With four to a team. That mixes it up nicely.
If that doesn’t appeal to folks, then put me on the team with Paddy and CM, please. Or, if you want me to form a new team to get the game going, let me know.
Have I mentioned that we need to make sure we have a way of ensuring fast play …..

Paddy, Thanks for the invite.
Sign me up for which ever team. I like the small map idea but would like to see some islands.
Let's play!
