Team Organization Increase the size of your Attachments

Here's another question we need to tackle before the game gets started - how will we organize our team?

The team thread in the public forum had one suggestion - a triumverate of President/Foreign Minister/Domestic Minister.

That's not a bad idea, though I'd suggest a Defense Minister/Foreign Minister/Domestic Minister trio to bring military startegy into the mix. Using those three positions as coequal leaders with different strategies, akin to the consuls of the ISDG games, would work effectively for a smaller team like ours.

Of course, we also need some kick-ass names for these positions.

I think it would be a good idea to wait until 3500 BC to elect officers. We will have more members and a little time to become better acquainted. In the mean time let us decide what positions we will vote for and what the responsability of those positions will be.

I think officers should set up threads and polls on the variuos subjects that pertain to their office. Then present these results to the turn player before the next turn.

I also think officers should serve a set term of 20-30 turns.

We may not need all these post filled in 3500 and we may need to add more positions later, but this may be a good start for the discussion.

President will play the turn
Foreign Affairs manages our trade deals, diplomacy and determines what, if anything, is posted in the turn tracker
Military Adviser manages exploration and military strategy
Domestic Advisor runs polls on build ques and wonders
Economic Advisorruns polls on how to manage our tax sliders, budget and rush jobs

President=Dracula
Foreign Affairs=Vampire of Deception
Military=Vampire of Destruction
Domestic=Vampire of Slaves
Economic=Vampire of ?

I was thinking that the President could be one of the four ministers, and to be the President you must be a Minister. We could have an election for the President and a minister every month. This would mean each Minister position is up for grabs every four months. Maybe it's better to have the President elections every two months?

I like the idea of selecting the President from the 4 officer position. That may help keep us a little more focused.

I'd prefer to hold elections based on game turns rather than real time though. Its hard to say how fast this game will move but maybe 10-15 turns a month.

I really like OctX's suggetion of having 3 elected officials only and having those 3 run things as co-equals. With a small team like this, it's going to be hard to get enough active participation and things are going to be left undone. If we need a "President" we should have the trio pick one of the three to be President. If they cannot agree, then the team picks one.

Some vampire related titles:
Count, Lord, Master, Sire, Instigator, Seducer, Dominator, Overseer.

I do like the Triumvirate of ministers of equal importance. I assume this will be decided by an election, but how long should the terms be? For life?

Defence (Dominator)/ Foreign (Seducer)/ Domestic (Overseer) could cover all the basses. The president would just be the one that actually plays the turn and gets it to the tracking thread on time.

I would not want any of these positions to be very powerful though. More like organisers who gather the poll results for all team members.

Given the size of the team elections every 30 turns would give us all a good chance to out different posts as well as make them accesable for new members.

I like the idea of a Defence/Foreign/Domestic triumvirate that runs things as equals. There's no one "President" to play the turn, but any one of them can play after all three of them have put up their orders. That way, should one be unable to play, we'll easily be able to avoid a penalty.

And every 30 turns sounds about right for elections... will they be all at the same time, or staggered?

I like the triumvirate as well, with staggered terms. Anything to divide the work and help limit burnout, which is the biggest problem with these games.

Sounds easier to have elections all at once. When would you like to have the first ones? I'm really don't see how any team can fail to play their turn on time, but think its a good idea to decide who will have that responsibility.

Lets make sure that we are in agreement on the responsability of these positions.

Lord (President) chosen from amongst the ministers. Will play the turn within the time slot after getting all relevant input from the team.
Seducer (Foreign Affairs) Will set up and moniter threads and polls pertaining to trade deals, diplomacy and turn tracker propaganda. Will get team input on these maters to the Lord within the time limit.
Dominator (Military Adviser) Will set up and moniter threads and polls pertaining to exploration and defence and military policy. Will get team input on these maters to the Lord within the time limit.
Overseer (Domestic Advisor) Will set up and moniter threads and polls pertaining to build ques, worker actions, tax sliders, rush jobs and wonders. Will get team input on these maters to the Lord within the time limit.

Officers will serve for 30 turns. At any time these and duties can be split or new posts formed as the team sees fit

The Seducer also controls any message made by the team to another team, and during a chat with other team, should be the sole representative of the team unless worked out before hand.

Lets just say that any official contact between teams is included in diplomacy. I would also like the Seducer to keep the team informed of any contact by posting or paraphrasing it in a thread in this forum.

May I also suggest that we call our President "Count". I think that's the best vampire-related title we have. We should have one of the trio chosen to be our Count. That individual will also be our leader and can speak for the team when the Seducer is too busy drawing in future victims.

Term of office (proposal)

All 3 Lords get the first 30 turns, then at turn 30 we put the overseer up for election. On turn 40, the dominator goes up. On turn 50, the seducer. And then every 10 turns after that the rotation continues.

Whenever there is a change, the 3 new Lords confer to decide who will be the Count. If they cannot decide, then we have a poll over it.

I just don't see the advantage of the staggered election. What if the Dominator wanted to serve as Overseer, it would be all messed up because of the odd terms of office. Also An election every 10 turns sounds like a bit of a pain.

However "Count" sounds cool and letting the Lords delegate this honor amongst themselves sounds expediend.

With Euphorica on their second day this may go much slower than I thought. Could be a week until we see the save. That should be enough time to settle these officer positions if you like.

Not enough post to see were the majority is yet, but here are the topics under consideration.

  • How many positions do we need - looks like 3 will do for now
  • What will we call them
  • What are the responsibility of these posts - My suggestions are 5 posts up
  • How long will they serve - 30 turns is a pretty popular chioce so far
  • When will we hold elections - all at once or staggerd, also when would you like the first elections

A few more votes could settle this hopefully in another day or two. Make sure your opinion is known.

The save is with Babylon now. We will have it in about 3 days so it may be best to just settle these issues and hold elections after we play the turn. I do not want the game delayed because in the midst of an election we are not sure who has the authority to play.

Please get your email address to me so I can send you all the save.

Also please post your comments here, First turn procedure, on how I plan to handle the first turn. Officers will play all the rest of the turns according to the rules we set here.

Two things -

Rather than calling them Ministries or whatnot, our leaders could then be called by their titles. The President would get the title 'Lord,' and the other two 'Count,' sort of like how the reputed Dracula of legend, Vlad III Dracula, was known as 'Vlad the Impaler.' Thus:
Lord (name) the Dominator
Count (name) the Seducer
Count (name) the Overseer

I'd add that the turnplaying shouldn't necessairily be the sole domain of the Lord - all three could get a chance to play it, just to ensure someone is around when we get the save. The Lord, then, could be simply additionally reponsible for administrative tasks, like interviewing applicants to the team, organizing elections, as well as organizing news updates.

Agreed: leaving the actual turnplaying to only one person could result in unexpected problems WRT unexpected absences. Best to have multiple people who can handle the task, just in case...

Octavian's naming convention is the best so far. I'm sure that any Lords and Counts that get ellected will be able to figure out a workable plan to get the turn played.

I'm not very interested in a constitution but if someone things it would be helpful please post something.

The only questions left is: will elections be staggered and who wants to run for office?

I think three votes in favor of anything is going to be pretty convincing around here.

Agreed on both parts.

Also, I'll agree to doing elections all at once, however, we should probably do them every 20 turns after the first 30 turn period is over.
