I'll play it and provide more criticisms as time goes by, but right now, here are first impressions;
1.) It's not my map. It's a giga map that I dled and then modified here and there to suit my tastes. But you're welcome anyway. lol.
2.) Java. You have Java set up as a relatively unihabited island. There ARE some natives there, BUT . . . take a look at a population density map somewhere. You'll discover that Java has one of the highest population densities on earth. It also has a huge population, and has had for quite some time, at least back into the late medieval era. This is a common blind spot for most westerners. The fact is that Java is one of the premier culture hearths on the planet. Don't feel too bad, though. I was in a grad seminar and the prof asked the question, "Where are the most populous places on earth?" Out of all the people there, I was the only one who mentioned Java. No one else seemed to be aware of it. This is because, as a child, I studied maps of the world in my spare time.
3.) Your placement of western native Americans is wrong. The Apaches are much too far north, as are both the Mandan and Navajo. I'm guessing that "sank" should be "Sauk." Powhatan should be further south, and Delaware should be farther north. Miami should be northeast about 3 squares. Chickasaw should be further east. AND, when it comes right down to it, at this point in history, there should be mound-cultures in the mississippi valley (though these collapsed, most probably due to virgin soil epidemics in the 17th century), and there should be NO horsed native Americans for some time. The Powhatan location really should be Cherokee. And there are no native Americans in new england? The history of the region after 1600 is one of almost continuous warfare between natives and english settlers. Also, I question your selection of native Americans. In terms of historical impact, the Commanche were noted. Where are the Iroquois, the most important native tribe in northeastern north America.
After I play it, I'll have more.
