Don't take it personally. Every one of us can have misplaced faith, and it was possible IMHO that you put misplaced faith in the Chinese government. It surprised me however, because of your strong pro-freedom of speech and anti-dictatorship opinions.

Re: Republicans to Become Communists Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

quote:

Both are extremely conservative holding their own values above those of minorities or other nations.

Not true. The communist party of China works for peace and cooperation between all kind of people.

quote:

Both are building/have built up militaries for aggressive campaigns: the US invasion of another country, China's planned decimation of a neighboring country.

Not true. The communist party of China only keeps a nessecary strength to avoid agression from the capitalist world.

quote:

Both support and encourage big business by offering tax breaks and looking the other way on corruption.

Not true. The communist party of China cracks down hardly on any kind of nonparty member activities that tries to undermine the legal partymemebers activites.

quote:

Both have government officials either holding high positions in companies or have wealth invested in companies.

Of course - no other than party members are educated enough to take care of such kind of operations.

quote:

Both are corrupt beyond reproach.

Not true. All incomes from partymembers goes to the common treasure to benefit the whole population.

quote:

Both attempt to restrict civil liberties of their own people.

Not true. Any chinese citizen can say what he want as long as the party has approved it.

quote:

Both engage in the inhumane torture of prisoners.

Certainly not. After a swift meeting with a judge all prisoners are cleanly shot in the backhead in full public so everyone can see that the legal system works.

quote:

Both have a leader who was put into power without the majority of the people's support (at least once in their political careers).

This is pure BS. The leader of the Communist party in China are found by free elections among the party members.

quote:

Both promote intolerance of another racial group.

Not true. The party hasn't any intolerance towards the chinese in Tibet - they just react against those rebellion chinese that think Tibet isn't a chinese province.

quote:

Both encorage patriotism and nationalism as a means to justify their authority.

Not true. The authority of the party grows from the people.

quote:

Both also purport their way of life or culture as being superior and generally more 'good' than others.

Thats just the law of history - who can fight that ?

quote:

Both pay lip service to environment concerns while allowing industry to pollute heavily in the name of economic advancement.

This is pure BS. Don't you know that one of the main concerns of the party is to preserve the earth for the future party members ?

quote:

Both ignore the pleas of the working class.

That is certainly not true. The party does every thing it can to protect the workers - especially those who works in coalmines.

quote:

Both support/have supported terrorist organizations or rogue states.

Not true. The communist party of China only supports organisations and states that wants to make a better world.

quote:

Both behave unilaterally in world politics.

What are you talking about ? The communist party of China are always on the side of those who supports the views of the communist party of China.

quote:

Both restrict freedom of speech.

Already answered,

quote:

Both use a philosophy intended for peace and understanding as the backbone and justification of their party, while failing to adhere to any of the requirements of their respective philosophies.

BS. The communist party of China are a pure peaceloving party which has grown from the people.

quote:

So I wonder: If the Republican Party changed its name to the Communist Party without actually changing any of its policies, would it gain more support from liberals and communists?

It is certainly unfair of you to compare the suppressing, fascistic and capitalistic democratic party of US (even if they lost the last election) with the peaceloving and humane communist party of China. Shame on you.

The PRC has as much claim over Taiwan as the Russian Federation has over Khazikstan. Less, actually, since they have no connection to the Chinese government that did have claim over it.

I don't see how the link between the PRC and imperial China is any less than the link between the Russian Federation and Tsarist or Soviet Russia.

When the Communists took over Russia, they had to reconquer the territory, and they did, in spite of what the world threw against them. That's why they owned it, even without a "legitimate" handover from the Tsars.

The Russian Federation was the result of a (mostly) peaceful handover of power from the old USSR. Note that the territory is much smaller. The reason it is much smaller, however you may wish to candycoat it, is that they were incapable of holding the larger territory, and knew it, so they let it go.

The PRC dosen't own Taiwan because they couldn't take it, not in fifty years.

What is this Taiwan? You guys mean The Republic of China?

Maybe you guys should start studying the ROC Constitution and what is says about the Island and its connection to Mainland China- last I remember, it states categorically that the Island IS part of China, it just disagrees about which of the two governments if the rightful government of the whole thing _ heck, I remmber this time when the China seat in the UN was held by the ROC, not the PRC.

You of all should know better. After WW II Chiang was getting his a$$ kick by the Commie, so he needed a place to go, so he invaded Taiwan and kill thousand to take control of the Island and of course rename it, The Republic of China. It was then that the PRC later claim that Taiwan was part of China.
A bit of history. When the Dutch arrived in 1680 or so, not one Chinese person lived on the Island. All of the people were Polynesians and they told the Dutch that their Grandfather, Grandfather had lived on the Island.
They also said that from time to time Chinese Pirates would used the Island to hide from the Chinese Navy. It was the Dutch that brought the Chinese to the Island to work (Slaves) for the Dutch.
I support a free and Independence Taiwan.
I have been there.

That's several years back when Lee messed around to get rid of Sung. That led to him exiting from the KMT and splintering the party, giving Chen an easy shot at the presidency.
