Youth is like death.

Ozzy has a decidely wide definition of "oppression". Maybe if he just a word with less connotations of violent repression, people would listen more to his argument.

Of course, I'm still waiting for any substantial reason to believe that 14-15 year olds are typically comparably competent as adults.

There is plenty of violence as consequence of youth oppression. But again, was Rosa Parks oppressed because she was asked to sit in seat A instead of seat B on the bus? Is "seperate but equal" oppression?

you are going against recent scientific evidence. Teens are only smarter because they are better practiced. Sure I was better at Calculus at age 17 than I am now, but how does that affect anything in real life?

No, a better argument would be that we know that brain structures are affected by environment, so that we don't know if the fact than teen brains aren't finished growing is a result or a cause of teen life.

The real ageism is against the elderly, people being forced out of work for being too old.

As JohnT so obviously pointed out before, EVERYONE was a teenager, no matter the race or sex. Every adult had the experience of being a teen- that makes the teen situation fundamentally and inherently different from race or sex and all the other comparisons-and unlike sex or race, it also ends, and rather fast.

Interestingly enough, my teenage years were not like a gulag, nor was I oppressed, beaten, or abused. I sure as hell was better off thasn any prison inmate.

What determines a good childhood or not is not "rights", but socio-economic class and having responsible parents.
