We need the Horse location now. The other locations won't get stolen from us. the horses might.

We'll going to need Horsemen regardless, either for offense or a deterrent.

I still disagree. We explicitly stated focussing on building and the core should be our priority.

It seems to me we have an informal one here; currently 3-1 (or 2-1 if I misread Beta and he means to abstain?) in favor of the horse site. If others want to vote, just post your opinion here.

Edit: And now I see the poll. NM.

Thanks for the site and the suggested names. So I guess from looking at the site we have two choices - something like Sisanse, or Kurra.

I take it the settler to the horse site is already in route there?

In that case, yes PoA's settler should found on the tobacco.

We might want to consider after founding our horse city site a border with the civ east of us. Unless we're planning on attacking them later.

Proposed queue for the horse city site:
1. Baracks
2. Horsemen
3. Horsemen
4. Temple
5. Horsemen
6. Horsemen
7. Library?
8. Lots more Horsemen

I'm assuming that it's miltary escort becomes it's garison / MP.

Yes, I was thinking the bow (Bow Jon, actually ) would be the garrison.

Order looks okay to me, though remember, it likely won't top 1 spt for a while.

I'm thinking the horse city will be around 50% corrupt after all cities closer to the capital founded. Athough that depends upon difficultly level. It would be helped out a lot by a CH [candiate for cash rush] and building the FP anywhere. The baracks might be a candidate for pop rush at 20s remaining.

Good point.

We could go to the green site near the second silks source.

However, there's not much to that site until we can trade and/or we can get some mines down there.

So, perhaps a different site?

Here's my proposed location. Defines our LB border to the north, is on a hill in case of invasion, and grabs that wheat flood plain.

Looks good. In retrospect, I wish we had built Kurra on the hosre tile, and then we could have built a city on the coast and maintained a solid 3-tile spacing. As it is - the new site is excellent - and should be priority.

Kurra does have 3 tile spacing with our nearest city.
And it would put cultural presure if Trans. built a site 3-3-3 of it.

The hill city will evenually benifit from being 4 tiles from Kurra because it's along a fresh water lake.

The red tile does squeeze the land in between a bit, so planning a city there will get some non-optimal results.

(In other words - where would the 'gold' city go?)

Not following you here BFM. ???? Moving the city out to the hill in fact does the opposite - it 'un-squeezes' the land in between.

In fact - that is my one concern - is it too far out. I acknowledge wanting to get it on a lake, but what about the tile just to the south-west of the red tile (keyboard 1)?

See the new picture for details. The golden city (near the iron) is quite 'squeezed'; it does not have fresh water. Still, this might be the way to go.

Proposed order:

  1. Green site
  2. Red site
  3. Golden site
  4. Grey site

Beta: moving it 1 would mean we'd have to wait for a temple to access the wheat. It would also leave us with either a very squeezed situation around the iron if we built another city there, or a very loose one with unused tiles if we didn't.

BFM: The gold city could be moved 9 to get it fresh water. Squeezes things between gold and red, but I think the tiles Gold would lose access to will be used up anyway by PoA and Felinicity, so I don't think those tiles would be any real loss to gold.

As for the order, I think we should go for Red before Green. Green doesn't have any mines at present, so it's 1 spt unless it goes for a forest and loses growth; we need to get that area a worker before green will be of much value. (GoT will be able to use the wheat efficiently and non-stop under Monarchy.) Red, on the other hand, can be a slow but consistent food pump, and it claims the wheat plains, and longer-term another flood plain, before LB gets there.

Kloreep - Understood. Good logic. (Not sure why I didn't see it. )

And I too say red before green. Long term, the Lost Boys will be more of a threat. So if we get that city in now and establish the eastern border - so much the better.

Red before Green makes sense. It defines a border with the LB and Green - we have that covered unless some lands on the beach.

I ask that Red be named Lake Ishtar.
