Suffering from ads?

1. Amadeus (that no one else so far has listed this is a damning indictment of Apolyton movie taste!)
2. A Night to Remember (Titanic can't even hold a candle to this film).
3. The Empire Strikes Back
4. Citizen Kane (Welles rocks!)
5. The Haunting (1963 version by Robert Wise--best haunted house movie ever)
6. Blazing Saddles
7. Clue (so many classic lines!)
8. Without a Clue (sorely underrated comedy about Sherlock Holmes with Michael Cain and Ben Kingsley)
9. The Two Towers (Standing in for all LotR films)
10. A Christmas Story (a movie I have to watch whenever it's on)

No idea how best to narrow it down to 10, but here's one way -- the 10 films I've (voluntarily) seen most often as an adult:

8 1/2
Bringing Up Baby
Casablanca
Chinatown
Citizen Kane
The Conversation (edit: which John T just posted, too! All Hail The Conversation!)
Duck Soup
Nashville
Singing in the Rain
The Wizard of Oz

Interestingly, 6 of the 10 were made before I was born, and none was made in my adult lifetime. Don't know what to make of that...

I'm just gonig to pretend you didn't just put Titanic in your top 10 list.

Even though the movie isn't as bad as everyone says it is, it just isn't cool to like the movie. you are required to bash it like everyone else.

Ah, so many good films! I had completely fogotten about Kurosawa. Several of his films deserve to make someone's all time list. I particularly like Rashomon, Yojimbo and The Hidden Fortress. Also, I agree that Aliens was terrific.

You took the thoughts right out of my mind!

And while I'm at it, what's with all the love for Apocolypse Now Redux? There's a very good reason why they left all that stuff on the cutting room floor. Much of it was boring / not as high quality as the rest of the film, and even the good stuff ruined the pacing of the film while making further inroads into its plausibility. I love the original and had high hopes for the extras, but in the end 1 + 1 ended up zero. A much better film to scratch that itch is Hearts of Darkness, which is a documentary by Coppola's wife about the making of A.N.

I'd rather watch Tom Hulce in 'National Lampoon's Animal House' with Mozart playing in the background.

In fact I'd rather watch Tom Hulce playing Mozart on the kazoo. Hated the play, cordially loathed the film.

I thought Bill Murray was superb in 'Groundhog Day'- like a dry run for 'Lost in Translation'. It's that melancholy, lugubrious quality he has, with the rage bubbling underneath.

I loved ' L. A. Confidential' with the 'Sunset Boulevard' narrator and the compelling performance by Kim Basinger (of all people!) as the Veronica Lookie-Lakie hooker with a heart. There were so many good performances in it- and I loved the way the whole audience gasped when Spacey's character was shot.

'The Wickerman' is one of my favourites because it's so unsettling and bizarre, in so many different ways- the fake traditional soundtrack (songs that sound like old folk songs but aren't) the Scots who aren't (Britt Ekland, Ingrid Pitt, Diane Cilento) and the setting and denouement, when the audience realizes it's been fooled. A success despite all its travails.

Because AN is a surreal journey as much as anything. I thought the extras did a good job playing to that aspect. They weren't the most exciting scenes, but the movie doesn't work on that level if they only show the highlights. In the original, we've got enough downtime shown to make it work, but I still thought it worked better with the extra scenes. For the record, I'll take either version and not complain. I simply like Redux a little bit better.
