Why is accounting less parasitic but still so?
quote:
The teaching profession is not parasitic because it educates children, our future. The medical profession brings people back to health, and as well as this obvious benefit is a great boon to productivity.
The point is, what does the stockbroker or the investment banker bring to our society that is valuable?
|
Stockbrockers and investment bankers, as well as other workers in the financial sector perform services which are valuable to people. Is the taxicab driver a parasite, because he gives people rides when they could otherwise walk? Is the cashier a parasite who takes people's money and hands out tickets? Of course not becuase they provide a benefit to people with the work that they perform. True teachers and medical professionals provide a lasting benefit, but it's still just a benefit, not better no worse than other workers.
That being said workers in the financial sector do improve productivity, especially accountants. They provide information to govt, managers, investors, and even employees about the organization that they work for that allows those people to make better decisions which improves productivity and overall value as much as any other job.

The sector is an artifact of the capitalist system, important for it to function (to an extent) but isn't a valuable occupation for society in itself. And as they seem to make wealth off of other peoples work by manipulation of numbers basically, it is parasitic.

Every job is important to keep the capitalist system functioning. I don't care what job you do, the system depends on it.

Ummm.... No they don't. They make money from their own work. A capitalist makes money from other people's work. That is parasitic. Why do you think working in the financial system is the same thing. It's not about manipulating numbers. That is a select few criminals who do that. Honest accountants provide usefull honest information.

"As far as volatility is concerned I don't really know what you mean by that."
Volatile...look at the nature of the market, busts and booms and can be affected by the whim of a few...that is volatility. |
Ok. Well there are some stockbrockers who cause that, but you can't label all financial sector workers parasites just because some of them are.
