Well, I'm alone for quite a while now.

Things didn't workout with my g/f shortly before the military, and we broke up. She later wanted to try again but I refused.

Then I had a short time of fun - meeting new people and even dating a bit. But that ended in the military.

Today I work long hours with a fixed group of people, and even though I meet lots of girls there, it is problematic since they are either taken or fall for older guys. (my unit is small and varied in the age groups ranging from 18 to 22 (the older commanders are irrelevant). Not to mention it is a very difficult environment since rumors and gossip travel faster than a rocket on its way to a terrorist.

I usually only have time to go 'out' on weekends or rarely during the week. But there are several problems:

1) I'm quite poor. Army salary doesn't help.

2) Don't have a driver's lisence yet ("My dad will pick us up, ok?") because I spent my money on the SATs I took before the military, and I don't have time to take the courses now anyway.

3) My friends circle has become small. I no longer find my self invited to huge "frat-like" parties at people's houses, where you could drink, chat and such.

Most times going out means meeting the same people - either my male friends or my female friends who aren't options (really - they aren't. I dated one before, and the other one is not suitable for it).

Alot of time I feel like I'm wasting my time going 'out' with my female friends when I should attempt really dating and picking up chicks.

But I'm too "skeptical" either about my chances or about the girls. I have quite high demands and I almost turned down my previous g/f because I wasn't sure about her. I tend to think about each girl - would we manage having a normal relationship? And usually I find reasons why not - so I just do nothing.


So while I got excited about some girls during the first several months of military service - by now I'm pretty numb to it.

I keep thinking that I just don't have the time, money or car needed to have a relationship right now. And it sucks since I feel I need one.



So, am I the only one not getting any?

Just think for a second: You're asking a message board full of civ-lovers if we're single and don't like it.

I'm single and I'm undecided about whether I like it or not. Having had my relationship of four years end at Christmas (Love the message from her in my Xmas card- "Hope you have the best Christmas ever!") I've been enjoying a lot of time doing whatever the hell I liked for me, plus my life has moved on. I am meeting quite a few girls, but they either tend to be taken, skanky, or just not interested. I think I'd make do with a compromise right now, just some cheap sex'll do

Gibsie- well, yeah - I felt like that at first.

But then I stopped meeting new girls or stopped meeting new girls that I could do something with.

And I have almost no time to 'hang out' during the week.

Most of the girls I meet at work are from other parts of Israel, so when I go back to Haifa, I don't meet them. And i'm carless as I've already said.

Yes, well that is nice. That's exactly what I'm telling myself.

Porn is cheaper than sex too. Even 'free' sex involves a dinner and a movie.

I know we Americans think about geography differently, but its not THAT far from Haifa to Tel Aviv. Egged is pretty regular, no, as is the rekevet (railroad). Do young Israeli women really look down on you THAT much if you dont have a mechonit (car)?

in any case, if by "being alone" you mean "not having a lasting relationship", then, yes, I am alone.

At this point I don't really mind it, since I don't see any point in being in a lasting relationship if the girl isn't just perfect (you'll know it when you'll get it ). God forbid that such a relationship will last: The end may be very hurtful to one of you.
