But the behaviour of the Chelsea 'fans' threatening him was disgraceful, and it's really sad he felt he had to retire. I hope they find the people who sent stuff and arrest them.

He could get some good experience against NI and Azer though . I think he'd be able to hold his own. Get a few games under his belt and perhaps in WC 2006, he could be a force. Just tell him to learn how to defend .

I guess a 4-3-3 could be an option is Downing isn't ready if it is more like a 4-3-1-2 (one in the hole). Though I'd really like to see what SWP can do on the right wing side.

Yeah, in the long term we can have Downing and SWP on either wing.

I'd have really liked to see in the last game, Johnson in the middle with Downing and SWP as real out and out wingers, like Chelsea use Duff and Robben. That would have been really interesting. But OH NO! What was Sven thinking?

That would have been a good time to try it as well. To see if they've got it. We still don't know if Johnson has what it takes. He may, but it would have been nice to see what he could do in the last match. Put him with Owen and see if he can cut it.

He was really bad in that Chelsea Barca match, and not just in decisions against Chelsea.

Mind you, even Collina didn't have a great game in the replay and he's the refereeing Pele.

It is interesting but only if they are any good.

Ukraine look good for an automatic place Serbia have a shot too....

Problem is the traditional countries seem a lot better. Whatever, let's hope there are fewer boring Scandinavian teams. (I'm looking at you Norway!)

Well some of them are fairly decent, like Ukraine, Serbia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece, etc. And it'd be nice to see players like Shevchenko on football's biggest stage.

Btw, who's bright idea was it to put Greece and Turkey in the same qualifying pool? I realize they've become nicer, but, well, you know...
