Curious - what's the longest battle in the history of GO? As in, number of waves? Obviously this round should ultimately set this, as eventually someone has to have a one-on-one battle with large evenly matched forces, and 3hp/bp is going to have longer battles - but have we ever had a 6 wave battle or longer?

I recall one a few games back that lasted 9 or 12 waves. It was AWESOME. I forget the details, though.

Jonny- Yep, it's the biggest hit so far, and also the first time we've gone into four-figure territory. Maneuver really ups the ante.

Snoopy- The lognest battle so far was Lord Nuclear's attack on Sandman in GO 7, 8th round. The fleets were evenly matched and one was backed off, and it took to Round 14 for Sandman to just barely repel Lord Nuclear.

hehe yes, it is indeed ... tho i have to say i don't regret leaving my ships behind, i think most of the time the best strategy in this age of allied attacks is definitely to leave nothing behind except a frigate guard ...

Well, mostly this has been just a lot of baseswapping. The only real engagements were the ones where defenders got completely fried, toasted or incinerated (they never stood a chance against an allied attack anyway).

No defender does ... perhaps myself or jamski might against a 2 player alliance, who knows, but ... a 3 player alliance will always win, and a 2 player alliance generally has a pretty good chance

Not that allied attacks are a bad thing. I think spectacularly lopsided battles are one of the things that make this game so great - I thought I'd suffocate out of all that laughing when I saw the figure 1,392 hit the screen.

We'll probably see some when we approach the endgame as spies become more valid as specials.

I am intrigued by the already once aired thought of having two fleets defend, though, it just needs quite a bit of work to fit into the existing game mechanics.

Why not just a 'defend' order? I don't understand why that would upset the game as much as has been argued before ... the ability to send some of my fleet say to LN's home base to assist in defense, as a regular order (like Attack), would mean more combat and less running around.

And for those who were wondering, the longest battle in history can be found here.

Oddly enough, that game had quite a lot of prolonged battles. The rules haven't changed drastically enough to explain that, so I guess everyone is just playing it safe and employing tactics that have been deemed the best, while others have died out, such as the frigate ping - in the early stage of that game a single Jamskian frigate took all three of Skanky's bases.
