Our apologies, but we wont be able to fix post counts |
I think that you may be a bit too pessimistic . . . . . what is impossible to you may not be impossible to some of the affected members who want to restore their post counts and think it worthwhile to invest a bit of time.
Let's try thinking outside the box and see what is required.
In any of my posts, if I click on PROFILE, I apparently have 261 posts. If, instead, I click on SEARCH, I get a list of 569 of my posts. Clearly, I lost most of my posts in March when the system got screwed up and, evidently, you are unable change 261 to 569.
From a somewhat cursory look there appear to be a number of individuals who have joined since '02 who also have two valid post counts. Unfortunately, for many members who joined earlier, the SEARCH count is smaller than the PROFILE number and, consequently of no help. However, IIRC, Mercator has post count numbers for some of these individuals as of early '05.
I have a possible solution that will not involve months and months of work on your part.
1. I assume that Mercator, as moderator of the SL forum, can lock threads and delete posts or arrange to have it done as needed.
2. Let those who were affected by the accidental deletion start their own threads in the SL forum and post as many spam posts as needed to bring their totals up to the number listed under SEARCH. Doing this should require Mercator's prior approval.
3. Have Mercator lock the threads after the spamming.
4. Of course, this will mess up up the SEARCH totals, but that is no great loss . . . . many of them are already meaningless.

As sticky threads they never got archived, right? Doesn't this present a problem for future updates?

I guess I was a little unclear. The threads in the Hints, Tips and Guides subforum were always 'live', regardless of the date of last post, because they never got archived. Many have been updated years after they were created. If they are transferred to the main forum there will be nothing to distinguish them from 'normal' threads. I can't see MarkG trawling through the SL Great Library to determine what should or shouldn't be archived. Do you intend to bump some of these threads (eg, the hex-editing ones) before each round of archiving?
