You shouldn't have a problem with that, there are plenty of people to mix with that don't have that attitude. (Mostly out of staters ).

It's kinda hard to explain what Japher is talking about without experiencing it firsthand.

I would start searching the Indiana and California websites and see what you can come up with in terms of opportunities.

I gotten every single job I've had since graduating school (and also my college internship) through ads, most of them online, one in a publication.

Put an end to popups!

That's a good idea. Check out the place at its worse (IMO) when the pollution is at its peak, it's at its hottest, and there are people everywhere. If you don't mind those, then you will be fine for the rest of the year.

Anyway whatever happens, best wishes to you on your future plans.

Yah, I guess I'm just a little afraid to jump out of the "box" so to speak. I'm just ready to get out of here. Tired with the BS (took me 24 years) and this shite just isn't worth it.

Word. Thanks, I'll keep everyone updated. But I kinda want to hear from the people in other states. (Although it looks like I'm probably going to go to California ).

I can understand re: jumping the box - I went thru the same thing. Trust me the act of jumping itself is worth it regardless where you jump to. It's liberating in a way and allow you to explore yourself in a new way.

But worth telling. IIRC, some Brits pulled off a coup, but their government turned around and gave the islands back to King Kamehameha III, who uttered the words that have since become the state's motto. They translate into "The strength of a nation lies in the righteousness of its people."

Brief Hawaii History

This is pretty much right. We're taught since elementary school this basic stuff. The link is pretty much spot on.

HI was basically friendly towards the UK, and was even thinking about joining it (although independently ruled) until the US got involved.

Could go into more detail, but I don't want to deviate from the main reason why this thread was made...to find out more about job opportunities on the mainland.

yeah, pretty much. There was a huge crackdown on the homeless, big roundup on the beaches and practically everywhere that was City and State land. Told them they gotta get out or else.

But last week there was a rally at the State capitoll and there seems to be some previously overlooked alternatives for our normal routine of "dealing with the homeless".

yeah, I'm in Honolulu. But still, compared to the mainland, it's no contest. Everyone here is still all about "I know your father from this-or-that" so I'll give you this job. Our whole state is still down in the tubes as far as work is concerned. If you're interested in social services (like I am) it's basically you better know someone or you get turned down.

While I don't doubt that the mainland is like this, at least the opportunites are greater than over here. And I don't want to live in a nepotistic state anymore.

Except as part of a suit, I have never spent $60 on a pair of pants. I don't think I've broken the $35 level (not including taxes.)

Of course, you're in HI and things are more expensive, but I still found the juxtaposition of "I'm not materialistic" and the idea of buying $60 pants pretty funny.

I'm cheap, you see.

I have been making connections, but most of mine are either too high too meet those in hiring, or in a profession that is totally not in the field I want.

I'm out of here, that's that. Mainland here I come.
