Why don't we make this as a forum game?
We could have one gm who keeps an eye on all the games and posts updates as soon as both players has sent in their orders. Several games can run simultaniously (and in the same thread)

I wouldn't mind gm'ing this (it's not like it requires any story or anything)

I don't have high hopes for it either, but it could be set up as a "free game" where people just "sign in" and the game starts if 2 people have "signed in"
Getting 8 or 16 players for a tournament will probably not be possible, but if people are interested I wouldn't mind gm'ing it (as mentioned earlier)

I almost closed this one too. But decided not to since Battleship is a mainstream classic game and not a see how far you can walk drunk type game.

I would review any attempt to make this a forum game, but if done right, I would probably go along with it.

But, I still maintain the right to change my mind based on how this tread pans out.

If you play with a slightly larger map and have 5 people on each team with each person controlling/representing one ship*, and each having one** salvo to fire each round, it can be more interesting. If nothing else the salvo co-ordination could be fun to watch.

* You can change the fleet size if that many people wanted to play.
** You can have larger ships fire more salvos in a turn if you want, else few would really want to be the aircraft carrier.
