It was the day of the great electrical storm. I'll never forget it, as it was the day I was struck by lightening.

Now, being the young fool I was, I was of the mind that I was pretty safe in my brick building, so I decided to take a shower. Now mind you, taking a shower during an electrical storm is not normally a smart thing to do when you live on the prairie, and being a prairie person, I knew well that to do so could put me at risk. Being in CHicago, however, I though, what's the harm? There are plenty of tall buildings and trees, we won't get hit. And we weren't.

The building across the alley was. As I was looking out the shower window at the rain whipping by horiztonally. As I was covered in water and soap. As I was touching a piece of metal rebar just poking through the window.

A felt a pulse go through me that was not altogether pleasant. All of my muscles tensed involuntarily.

Woah!

I looked out again to see if I could see any damage on the building across the alley.

BOOM!

It struck again. I got hit again.

I rinsed off and got out of the shower.

Later I stepped out on the back porch. It was shielded from the wind and rain, so I sat outside watching the lightening storm. The sky was exploding in hues of cherry and lime and light purple. Weirdest damn thing I ever saw.

I love watching lightning - from a safe distance, of course. Sometimes one could see a lightening streaking, arching, and forking either between two clouds or to the ground. It's one of the truly amazing things one can see.

Put an end to popups!

Getting back to the thread:

It wouldn't matter a whit to me, because IMHO, the message is more important than whether or not the man was married.

But I believe it is a central tenant of the Catholic religion that Christ is the bridegroom to the Church. A married Jesus would play havoc with that concept.

Zkrib, I watched a show that blamed the Catholics for the notion that MM was a hooker, but I don't know. I also can't imagine what they stood to gain by such a position.

Same thing they stood to gain from worshipping Asexual Bachelor Christ (tm): the misogyny and demonization of eros that are at the very heart of the Church.

It takes the woman of power in Jesus life and makes her 1.) an undesirable, someone Catholics would not pray to 2.) an undesirable female who Jesus found love to take under his wing (thus making Him even more of The Man)

The Catholic Church has something against women...

So much so that they have statues of mary in their churches. That they teach people to ask Mary to pray for them..

You really can't discount the Mother of the Lord.

Which other women do they venerate in Churches? How many women saints are there? Doesn't it say in the Bible that a woman should be seen, not heard, especially in Church? Oh, and who's teaching was that...right, The Rock (Paul, not the wrestler).

Wow I thought Christ was the heart of the church, and he affirms the beauty of the union between a man and a woman in marriage.

I don't see where he tells married people they have sinned.

It isn't that he demonises eros, just that agape rules so much, and Christ can't help but talk about how cool agape is.

Yes, in fact, it does

1 Co 14:34
As in all the churches of God's holy people, women are to remain quiet in the assemblies, since they have no permission to speak: theirs is a subordinate part.

1 Co 14:35
If there is anything they want to know, they should ask their husbands at home: it is shameful for a woman to speak in the assembly.

1 Tm 2:11-12
During instruction, a woman should be quiet and respectful. I give no permission for a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. A woman ought to be quiet.

And then there's this gem of a quote:

quote:
man was not made for woman, but woman was made for man
