Next Tech to Research Increase Your PM Length

We already have deals for CoL and Currency, so I didn't include them.

Otherwise, what should we research? Please see this thread for discussion so far.

As I said in the previous thread, I think we should go for Construction. Combined with Currency and CoL, which we've made deals for, we can get in to the next age, research Feudalism, and switch to that. Feud has much better unit support for a small empire composed of towns like we currently have, and it lifts the tile penalties of despotism, allowing us to REX better. We can stay in Feud for a while and enjoy its support while building the aqueducts, temples, and cathedrals that will allow us to grow to city sizes and support our military under Monarchy or Rep. (And we'll have a little more time to see which way the world jumps before deciding between those two.)

Ok - 2-2 deadlock. Now what do we do?

we need to decide before the next turn rolls around.

Those who voted for monarchy, do you not find Kloreep's logic of getting to the next age and using feudalism compelling?

Apparently not as much as Monarchy.

We really should develop a policy for ties. In two-choice situations like this, would a coin toss suffice?

No, I don't, even though we are scientific and so we get a free Middle Age tech upon advancement there is no way for it to be a specific one. (Unlike the Philosphacy bonsus tech)

So, unless we are lucky, that is two techs to research to get to Fedualism.

Only one tech to reserach for Monarchy.

More over, any other scientific civs may find construction very compeling. If we were any other Scientific civ that wasn't religious I'd be beelining to the next era.

On tech costs, I think Construction is slightly cheaper than Monarchy.

But if I recall correctly, Fedualism is between 50% and 100% more expensive than Construction.

Got spare money?

Tech costs:

Monarchy 24

Construction 20
Feudalism 32

So, barring

IIRC Construction would take 20 turns at this point; I guess we're capable of outputting exactly 25 beakers. So I'd estimate 24 turns (probably less as we grow) for Monarchy, and 50 or so (probably less as we grow) for Feudalism, barring good luck with the free tech.

I think I may be switching my vote to Monarchy.

My concern is that the diplomatic situation is going to break down quickly - and therefore we had better be our of despotism when bowmen are required for military action.

If we do not get feudalism as our free tech, then we would still be a tech away from changing governments.

Another possible advantage: we might be able to get good deals from trading Monarchy away, if the other civs also want to get out of Despotism ASAP.

Especially if they see warfare as the way of the future.
