We're having an Apolyton Europa Universalis 2 game on Saturday and we're looking for a few more players. If you play EU2 then come on down for some fun multiplayer action.

(Ming, the Paradox forums can be a bit slow and several of the people who used to post there still lurk in the OT so we're just trying to get their attention with this thread. I hope you don't mind.)

I think it would be very much fun to play EU2 against humans!

Has any of you tried it before? I remember hearing that mulitplayer is buggy and requires lots of bandwidth.

The bandwidth needed depends upon how fast the game speed is set and on where the various players are located. If you have one player on each continent then things can get laggy but if everyone has a fast connection then there aren't to many problems.

Intially there were some big bugs with MP but they've released eight large official patches and multiple beta patches (the most recent of which was released April 21st) and now it runs smoothly. Not flawlessly but very smooth and absolutely playable.

One thing is sure and that is human players are much, much better then the AI so most people find MP to be much more enjoyable.

Also, I doubt it would go smoothly on my 384/64 DSL link.

But you guys ABSOLUTELY MUST post an AAR with screenshots and detailed descriptions :eeK:


How many sessions does a typical game take? Or is it played in one go?

It depends upon how much time the players are willing to spend in one sitting. It also depends upon how fast the game speed is set. fighting, plotting, and conducting diplomacy for 400 years can take some time.

i might be up for it, my connection ain't brilliant (broadband but not the most reliable) but should be ok. depends on times and stuff though.

Does EU2 have in-game joining, parting, and rejoining?

Not exactly. You can leave and the AI will take over but you can't rejoin. That means the host has to save and restart the game so everyone can join in again. The MP version isn't as well thought out as it could have been but supposedly when EU3 comes out in late 2006 the new engine will have a much better MP system.

For those who are interested the game will be on Saturday at 6am Pacific time (1300 GMT) and so far we have 4-5 players. There is still room for 1-2 more people.
