Hmmm, I had thought that I had posted yesterday on this, guess I didn't fully before I had a program crash.....

Anyways, As I see that GK is wanting to be MoW, I guess that I'll put myself in as MoInt. Now, with that said, I would like us to [try] to meet a few "Conditions":

1) We DON'T let anyone know, espeically Trip, that I'm MoInt. As I want to get that santamonious SOB, I need him to think that we DON'T have the resource of myself and the spreadsheets. We say that someone else is, if anyone asks. Trip is a major egomaniac and I know that he won't apply himself as fully to this, if he suspects that he has no "Competition" over in the 'Poly ranks.

2) That I definately have some help, perferably from someone who understands the workings of my speadsheets. Or atleast, has Excel and can read from them. I don't want to get burned out on this and let this get too obcessive, like I was getting in the PTWISDG. THis job is a LOT of work, especially when dealing with issues that arise at the most inopertune time, espeically when they require lenthy responces and multiple issues, while having to do this job.....

2a) That the Consuls and other ministers take an effort to understand my spreadsheets and how they work. I will endevor to keep them informed as to what is happening (with both spreadsheets and Sims) as much as humanly possible. This way, If I send them a new update, they know what they are looking at and can make a decision, based on the information that is provided........

3) that the team atleast attempt to "Donate to the cause", so to say..... It would be nice, for someone(s) to send me some Items, that would help compensate my not requireing me getting a second job to pay for them (and I've been really thinking about that, which would leave me NO TIME for this game). A more current version (newest not required) of some programs (like Office/Excel as I have a very old version - Office for Win95, IIRC) and some newer hardware Items - running a P2-450 w/256 meg can sometimes s@uck with running all of this stuff at once). This is not really a requirement, but it would be nice to have....

Please realize, that once we start, that Ill be glued to the computer almost every waking, non-working minute and thinking about what cities can do what, almost constantly. I know from experiance from the PTWISDG, that I won't have a personal life. But if we are to suceed, we will need that kind of effort and I'm willing to give it.

That's probably a good idea. We shouldn't reveal anything about our government, or how it works, and the FAM. If we are asked how active the team is, we should respond that there are only a few people contributing.

I've got a copy of Office XP which is of questionable legality, E_T.

That said, I'd have to agree with Kloreep - the last thing that needs to happen to this game is for it to become all-consuming. I'd much rather that we all have a little bit of fun along the way.

Thanks, Oct, but someone is already working on sending me a copy of Office 2000 (just heard from him last night). It should be here within a fortnight, if not sooner....

But, I guess I can see about making up a list of "things" that I might need, at some future date. But. that can wait a little bit more....

No offense here E_T but don't expect a rain of gifts.

No one is forcing you to play this game much less to devote the innordate amount of time you did to the last one (which I'll remind you did not have a particular positive effect on your mental sanity).

I think most of us would much rather you colaborate within your capabilites than risk your job, personal life, love life, etc etc for something that will for all practical reasons net you nothing in return.

Actually, I'm not. But maybe, someone will realize and help to compensate my efforts to the team....and then again, maybe not. I'm not going to hold my breath over it. Of course, MZ, you can always come and visit me. Hehe, call it a cultural exchange visit.....

O.K., first off, for those of you who don't know what is being discussed, lets get it all out.

In the PTWISDG, I was the MoI, after Dominae had quit. I was MoI for a long time after that, up until the attemped Invasion of GWT (and the advent of the Florida Hurricanes). At around that time, my Domestic Partner of ~8.5 years (as some of you don't know, I'm Gay) had left me. At the time, I was obsessed with the game and the running of the nation. To the point, that at the end, I wasn't working (or really looking for a job) and was at my computer keyboard from wake to sleep. I was In chats, I was very involed in the forum(s) and I was doing lots of shreadsheet and sim things, besides posting the orders (which can take some time) and being present when the save was played. I was also helping to coordinate with CFC and CGN over the Invasion and other things. And I was burring the candle from both ends and the middle, I was fast burning out.

I had asked, several times for help, but was mostly ignored. The Consuls didn't understand even how to read my spreadsheets or (in some cases) didn't have Excell or had never loaded it onto their computers. We also had atleast 3 other Demogames and C3C was already out, so participation had waned. Then we had Trip, whith his "vision" of how things should be done and posting threads that would require my time to inform and advise to the lurking masses (and don't think that that isn't true) as to the best course for our nation, over the mid to long term. For I had my tools to work with and they showed me things that can sometimes not be expressed, readily, into words, in a concise manner.

Granted, that tool is not easy to learn and master, but it can be done. I had made things so that I could look at things, not for just the next few turns, over the next build, but in long term form nd could "see" how things were progressing and what needed to be done. And once someone realized who it worked and what they were looking at, it would all be very clear as to what was going on. That tool had allowed me to do a Massive Midgame "REX", unpresedented from all of our members points of views. And the "earlier version" (as it has been constantly eveolving to fit the needs of what I need to look at) had allowed my to help budget out expences, inrelationship to our CFC Allies and get our Forces ready for our Impending GWT Strikes.

* E_T still remembers how CGN had f@ucked up by doing several STOOPID things and not kept GWT properly occupided....

So, I had lt the game get to the point where it was becoming an obsession, to where I was really requiring some professional help. But the thing is, that is not entirely the whole story.

My Relationship, with or wuithout the game, had been breaking down for quite some time. I, as he, unbenonst to the other, was looking for a way our of it. We just didn't want to take that final step. I had been, ralistically, been wanting to get away from him for more than around 2 years or so, and the Denile was building up and building up, On my part, this had caused me to become much more involed in this game, than was healthy for me.

And we did break up, right about the time that I had made my "Intended Split" from the PTWISDG, via forcing myself from being banned from that team, for a short time frame. But my "Marrage" was doomed to failure, no matter what. Atleast, I wasn't doing the kind of drug (and I WAS using the game as one) that would leave any lasting effects on me, because I would have, if not for that outlet that I had taken.

So the main question that needs to be asked, is am I ready (or even if I really, really should) come back and help out, in the best way that I can? First off, it's been 1 year or so from when I had "left" the PTWISDG. I've had a lot of time to work on how I deal with a lot of things, especially, with my limited time. I've also had time, with the C3C Tournament Game, to perfect (as much as I realiistically can) my spreadsheet tools with the Budget sheet. And as I know from experiance, if that starts from the begining, then that takes out a lot of the work involed, atleast to start out.

I do want people to learn how it works. I do NOT want to work as hard as before, because I know where that leads too. But I do want to make sure that we are the top Civ, when all of the dust has finaljhly settled. I want to be able to send a copy of my sheets to a Consul or one of the people that would be helping me, have the orders written-up or fleshed out from there and then go and do something else, like go out to a bar or the beach or just the bookstore and not worry about things for a while. If a main topic of discussion looms (dealing with the direcion of where things re going to, I want to be able to have others with the same tools that I have and they can help express the same things that need to be said, at the proper time, so that I don't have to (atleast as much as I've had to in the past). Atleast, at this time, with the team that we are working on putting together, I think that it's possible and that I won't have to get as involved as much as before.

I can pretty much count on GK (if he gets the MoW position) to be able to look at my sheets and see what Mil Units are being/planned to be built where and when and what he will have to work with. And I know that he will be able to respond back, in a constructive manner as to what things that might need to be different. And I know that he is well versed as to how essential balance of all things domestic can be and that things aren't "written in stone" and can change. I can count on out FAM team (when we get going) to help to keep the wolves at bay, so that we won't have to Worry about our plans going too much astry, so to speak... So, we will have to make sure that we can get the most from our Economy in City Growth, Production and Trade. I have the tools and the experiance to make that part happen, just as long as it isn't by myself.

And, I want, very much so, to Trash Trip's A$$, as he was getting Info from me, as to how the sheets worked. At the time, He was Consul of Apolyton, and was the ONLY one of the numberous Consuls, who had shown an interests as to what he was looking at, as I had sent him and other Consuls copies, on occasions, thinking to get them to help take some of the burden off of me, instead of having to explain EVERY detail, that would have been OBVIOUS, if they had only taken the time to look and understand it. But instead, he had used the Imparted knowledge to help CGN in this game, to help them defeat"lucky" and to get to this round. Granted, getting rid of Lucky was a good thing, but the principle still applies, that I had forbidden him from using that from that team. But then, the version that he has dosen,t have the Budget section, which was a very good thing to have to help "Economize" your cashflow and plan for upgrade and such.

So, I really look forward to using that for this team. It will help allow our FAM to better make deals with anybody, as we can better predict as to when we will have whatever tech that we are researchingready to trade, especially while REXing, when the Tech research time is so in flux from our varing population (and thereby, trade) base.

But that's my point E_T, your participation in this game is supposed to be voluntary and no-one should go out of his way to participate more or help others involve themselves more. To each according to their spare time.

When I left for Switzerland I called it quits for all the demogames except the PTWDG as well as all my PBEMs. I was not willing to let a mere recreation activity get in the way of more important aspects of my life. I kept the PTWDG because I figured that I at least did have time for one game and because I knew no-one else on the team had the time to take over. But that was the exception, not the rule. If for some reason I wouldn't have had time to play even that game the sorry, someone else had better taken the reign.

So, I repeat. No-one is asking you to go out of your way to involve yourself in this game. No-one is also asking you to upgrade your PC or get a second job or whatever. You play here because you want to and because you are able to, not because you are forced to.

And no, I will not do a cultural exchange with you

My opinion is we should hold off a while. Terms should begin closer to game time.

The important thing at this point is to have a UN rep or reps nailed down.

Question: given that the average lifespan of a demogame is about 2 years (at least), why don't we wait until Civ4 and start then? I just don't picture myself being active in a Civ3 demogame with Civ4 being around.

Plus, it wouldn't be a true finals game. You eliminated teams playing Civ III, then finish in Civ IV? I know CFC would love to play in the Civ IV intersite DemoGame; let's start one when Civ IV is out with all the teams (Who knows, that might be possible...).
