I have to say Asher is correct. Also key to good social skills is the ability to .. project your thoughts clearly, meaning you can express yourself good, so your message is understood correctly. This would be essential for any IT job, because it often happens that people are not accurate enough with their needs or what they want. In other areas it could go but in CS, it doesn't. Have to be explicit. So, my experience is most people in the field have extraordinnaire social skills.

NOW being anti-social is totally different thing, which I also have noticed to be the case with many in the field .

But it has very little to do with social skills. The key is not to be well recieved, it is to be clearly recieved.
