The second question on the form is "are you a US citizen", so I'm hoping that means that I mail this in and that's the end of it.

They don't tell you **** on the form though.

only canadians are allowed on juries, and only in Maryland.

They will put you on a case of some inner city cop killer. If he is convicted his gang will come after you. If he is acquited the cops will come after you.

When I went jury duty apparently not even American's need to be placed on juries if you can successfully pretend that you can't speak english.

I was amazed at the number of ppl (asians mostly) who would claim they couldn't speak english yet ran a buisness and were either born in California or have lived here for over 15 years. Nothing the judge could do about it, but he would chastise them to a point that I thought was bordering on racism.

Eh. I wouldn't be scared at all to serve on such a case. The number of jurors who get murdered by the defendant is miniscule. Just living in Baltimore is a lot more dangerous than that. 1 murder within 40 feet of my doorstep in 2 years, 3 within 200 metres.

The major thing is the hassle, followed closely by the fact that I'd probably end up having to convict some kid of a drug offense, for which the punishment in the US is absolutely draconian.

FYI, they ask you if you have any disability that would preclude you from understanding jury instructions. Just say that you're Canadian and they'll dismiss you as a potential juror.

Unless it was drug dealing and involved weapons, I doubt you'd get on a case like that. They usually don't make it to a jury trial.

More likely you'd end up on a civil suit than anything else. My mom has been on JD 3 times since I can remember and it's always been a civil case.

when you get your citizenship,or register to vote, or when someone in your family gets it, they usually nominate the entire family for jury duty (happened to us)

i was registered in SD county to vote and they came after me. i told them i was gonna be a resident of SF at the time. then when I was in SF they came after me, but I told them I was a resident of SD. the bureacracy couldnt keep their stuff straight so they gave up.

It is quite likely that the defendant will be black. When the judge asks you if you have any problems with being on the jury, tell him you are racially prejudiced and hate blacks. Invent some **** and bull story about being mugged by a gang of Jamaicans in Montreal or something.

It works. You'd be surprised at how many people got out of conscription by "confessing" that they were gay.

If you aren't a citizen then you can't vote, then you shouldn't have be summoned.
