I wanted to keep the AI battles grinding along, and also get
away from the usual CIV2 'Axis conquer all' mentality...

I hope it is not too hard/extreme to fight as the Reich?

Alright, Curt, I've just started your scen as the Japanese, and already I've noticed two discrepancies. First, why is Bangkok a Commonwealth city? Songgram Phibun, Thailand's Prime Minister at the time, was a staunch ally of Japan, and eyed lands in Burma, Malaya, and Indo-China himself. Second, I don't recall hearing or reading of China having a significant air force (and certainly not at the level you have) before American aid started coming in. I'll get back with more when I have it.

Great looking scenario!

I just played a bit as the Japanese on diety. Very very tough to crack into China. Just one thought on game play... I don't see why a player would ever build the Val dive bomber, as it has the exact same stats as the Zero but with worse defense. The Val should have worse defense than the zero, though. But, perhaps, giving it 2 firepower like its German cousin the Stuka would be more appropriate.

I'm taking another shot at Germany.
Let's see if it can move a bit faster this time.

BTW, I assume that it is OK to load medium bombers in a city onto a carrier for transport across the ocean. Carrier landings and take-offs would, of course, be impossible for these large aircraft.

The choice to load twin-engine bombers is choice you can make, and as I
am not one for house rules, but if you wish a restriction, only load up one bomber.

More than that, well, let your conscience decide!

Sticking B-17s and Avros onto a carrier would be pushing it, however!

As I don't have much of conscience, maybe history should be the deciding factor. IIRC, there were 16 B-25's on the Hornet for the Doolittle raid. I'd guess that the ship could carry at least four times that number if there was no need to leave room for takeoffs. If one icon represents a squadron of planes, there should be room for 4 of them on a carrier.

Captain, get the big birds hoisted up onto the flight deck.

No, no! I meant it when I said no carrier take-offs or landings. This type of ferry can only operate between port cities. Germany cannot afford one-way missions.

Besides,

1. Our Japanese allies have dibs on China.
2. Wir fahren gegen Amerika.

I had an interesting idea to cover the potential stackable naval problems.

When a transport is sunk in stacked oceans, it might leave orphaned units sitting in the sea...

Well I got thinking and wondered if I gave the land units the 'Trireme lost at sea' flag
and also increased the chance of the Trireme being lost to 1x1, which means 100% loss rate...

This would represent the stranded units being lost at sea while in lifeboats, etc...

I wonder if this will work?

I'm afraid not

1) You'd actually need to move those units (ie, wake them up and hit spacebar)

2) Certain techs (Ast, Nav IIRC) lower this chance.

3) AI's trireme's don't sink anyway

The stranded land units in the sea do not sleep in ToT, it seems.

The intention is that the player will lose these units when he hits the space bar...

I guess the AI will cheat, but you can always sink the units!

If they don't sleep in ToT, then I suppose it could be good... However, take into account that several techs reduce this chance.

If it's intended for humans players only, then I'd put it as a house rule to disband them, otherwise, if for some odd occurrence they don't 'get lost at sea' (if the ship is sunk next to shore), then they might think they can go rescue them.

Been doing some intense playing in the last week!

Yep, the survival rate for stranded units is about 0% - !

The AI will ALWAYS go for these units, no matter what.

Dictator is almost ready now, I just have to complete my final playtest...
I should say that the 3rd Reich are going to be a bit of a challenge to fight against this time...

...But also still fun to play as!

The test went a treat!

With the new overall unit stats and the re-alligned civs,
the whole balance of the scenario has reached a good level.

The Axis are a now real powerhouse to be feared...
Japan is a relentless foe and performed the best out
of all the AI empires, the British and USA being very
daring in their attacks, and the USSR fought insanely.

In 1941, I watched as the AI 3rd Reich ploughed into the USSR,
taking over Moscow and Leningrad around mid/late 1942.

Also the Brits held out nicely and enabled the USA to bring in
some awesome attacks that culminated in France falling in late 1943!

during 1944 and 1945, the Japanese and Soviets slugged it
out and the Allies eventually took over Cologne and Berlin -

This defeat ended evil Adolf's War...But I have never seen such a struggle!

Now it is 1946 and I watch as the American and Japanese
air forces slug it out over the devastation of Soviet Siberia!

Now I think this project is ready to roll...
The bugs are ironed out, the events tuned, and the AI seems to
now behave as best as I can force it to. The advice given to me
by the fine posters in this thread have paid dividends...

I deem this WW2 epic is now all it was meant to be!

So before the week is out, I will post up the final zips and share this war with you!
