Got spare money?

Thanks for the recipe. Just some questions:

The temperature I can calculate from F to C. But how much is a "cup"? Also, is a tablespoon one of those you'd eat a plate of soup with? The rest can be arranged, just not today anymore. I'll make those cookies on tuesday, and bring some along on wednesday when I visit that girl. BIG PLAN!

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

The US doesn't "back" Karimov per say but we do have to work with him because Uzbeckistan is the jumping off point to Afghanistan. That's how all allied troops get into and out of Afghanistan so the US does have one air base there.

I pinpointed that Uzbekistan was in your sphere of influence, instead of Russia's. JohnMcLeod made similar comments.

I don't see how we said that the US are the ones behind the killings, which is how Blackcat and you are charicaturing us.

A thread named "US backed Uzbekistan slaughters 200 protestors" could make you think that there may be some kind of bias. Why even mention US in this case ?

Obviously there were no massacres because Georgia, Ukraine, and Khyrgyzistan handled their armed, freedom loving, prisoner freeing, democratic protesters in a civilized way.

Things were pretty hot on the protestors' side in Georgia (with Georgia having a wholly separatist province) and Khyrgyzistan, and the central governments could have felt justified into starting a bloodbath. Yet they didn't.

Uzbekistan has clearly behaved in a more criminal fashion than these three.

And I still don't see why you need to charicature my position about the US. In this matter, the US deserves far less thumb-downs than the Uzbek regime.

The conclusion are a bit hasty don't you think?

quote:
Yes, it's certainly bad to see that innocent civilians are randomlessly murdered by US weapons, especially in a country totally controlled by the US, I guess that it wasn't even the local police/military that did it but special trained US marines.

Yup, it was a cunning scheme decided by Bush himself, coz everyone knows that he can't think and does stupid things.

The fact that your first reply to this thread was about the comparison between Uzbekistan and Georgia/Ukraine/Khyrgyzistan, which I did in the post that preceeded it immediately? Edit: also the fact that you replied to a quote of mine?

As to "what caricature?": I guess I know my opinions better than you do. And I know that it is more nuanced than you let it appear. Even if it wasn't about only my opinion, but of all of those who criticized the US in this thread, I haven't see anybody giving more thumb-downs to the US than to Uzbekistan in this matter.

It does tell quite a bit about the "wave of democracy" America is trying to spread. You don't see any double standard in what happened, nothing? Truly you're impressive.

I can see at least two of mine here, so I think I'm entitled to answer.

I don't think that what happened was in any way acceptable and certainly not anything that was a way to implement democracy. What I opposed was that the the thread title implied that this was to blame on the US. It was so obviously that the purpose of the thread was to blame US for the incident instead of concern for those that suffered.

I can understand why you think so, but I think this thread wasn't really about saying "it's the US fault", but that it was more about pointing out the hypocrisy of the current US policy: it claims to fight for democracy while simultaneously backing such a regime (it's not like anybody is surprised by Karimov's violence).

The US hypocrisy is even more blatant in light of the current "democracy wave" it's sponsoring.

The second half of my first post was merely for comparison purposes to highlight the vileness of the Uzbekistan regime and the latter quote was an attempt to clarify such.

I certainly would hope that you know your opinions better than I, they are yours after all. As for whether any alleged caricature(s) inaccurately reflect your views and/or the views of others, is that not part of the definition of a caricature?

And to switch gears, does anyone have handy the amounts of aid other countries (if any) supply to Uzbekistan and whether or not they've revoked aid as a result of this atrocity and if so, by how much?

Sift my flour? what for? that's what my mom used to do in Eastie times when we had commie flour, but the flour we get nowadays is pure. kept dry, it'll be smooth too so no need to I wouldn't see any need to sift it there?
