I tried to look for those regimental flags when I went to post those regiments but I couldn't find more than just a handfull of colour illustrations.

Hmmm... it might be a tad harder to find illustrations of the units under those names Steph, such as "V Corps, 2nd Division" as oppose to the previous names such as "14th New York Militia". I do understand that the names and labeling are more accurate now than they were before.
Which units and uniforms do you think would best represent each division?

@ Harry: Thanks a lot, this will do just fine. Any idea what the Confederate "unit shield" should be looking like? Attached is what I have done with that Yankee symbol, I havenŽt yet decided which type I should use ... though I opt for the left one
@ Chris: Hum - good, very good point. The link below takes you to the Wikipedia entry about the Union OOB/Gettysburg - there is a link towards the Rebel OOB too on that site.
quote: Union I Corps, 1st Division:
19th Indiana
24th Michigan
2nd Wisconsin
6th Wisconsin
7th Wisconsin
7th Indiana
76th New York
84th New York
95th New York
147th New York
56th Pennsylvania
|
IŽd give that unit a maximum of two different unit graphics - one NY infantry graphic and one Wisconsin.
If weŽd apply that rule to the other divisions of the Union troops as well IŽd need these unit graphics:
I Corps, 1st Division - NY Inf., Wisconsin Inf.
I Corps, 2nd Division - "New England" Inf., Pennsylvania Inf.
I Corps, 3rd Division - Pennsylvania Inf., Vermont Inf.
II Corps, 1st Division - NY (=Irish Brigade) Inf., New England Inf.
II Corps, 2nd Division - Pennsylvania Inf., Massachusettes Inf., Minnesota Sharpshooters
II Corps, 3rd Division - Ohio Inf., NY Inf.
III Corps, 1st Division - Pennsylvania Inf., Sharpshooters, New England Inf.
III Corps, 2nd Division - NY Inf., New Jersey Inf.
V Corps, 1st Division - Massachusetts Inf., Pennsylvania Inf.
V Corps, 2nd Division - Union Regulars
V Corps, 3rd Division - Pennsylvania Reserves
VI Corps, 1st Division - New Jersey Inf., Pennsylvania Inf.
VI Corps, 2nd Division - Vermont Inf., NY Inf.
VI Corps, 3rd Division - Pennsylvania Inf., New England Inf.
XI Corps, 1st Division - NY Inf., Ohio Inf.
XI Corps, 2nd Division - NY Inf., Ohio Inf.
XI Corps, 3rd Division - NY Inf.
XII Corps, 1st Division - New England Infantry
XII Corps, 2nd Division - Ohio Inf., NY Inf.
Cav Corps, 1st Division
Cav Corps, 2nd Division
Cav Corps, 3rd Division
And now to explain those infantry types a bit:
* New England Infantry - some kind of unit resembling the New England provenience of its soldiers;
* New York Infantry - it would be great to have a number of different uniform types to chose from
* Sharpshooters - two different types, US Sharpshooters and Minnesota Sharpshooters;
* Union Retulars - should be clear what IŽd need;
* Pennsylvania Reserves - I have no clue what they wore ...
IŽll post the splitted Rebel OOB later
Btw, I do think the divisional unit(s) could look like this:

So just to be clear Steph, are you suggesting that each individual unit graphic would be made up of two infantrymen? Meaning that in the case of I Corps, 1st Division the unit graphic would be a NY Infantryman standing beside a Wisconsin Infantryman?
If this is indeed the case I can get started right away.

Here's what I mean Steph, for this example of the I Corps, 1st Division I used the 14th New York and the 2nd Wisconsin. Would this be what you were looking for or did you have other regiments in mind?

*edit*
Here's the unit example. Now I just realized that the 14th New York wasn't in the I Corps, 1st Division but rather the 147th and several others. So for now Steph just let me know if this style of unit is what your indeed looking for and if so then I will proceed with making up the proper I Corps, 1st Division units along with all the others post haste.

Truth be told I like those as well Steph, the colour, shading and positions are all improvments on my mods. I think I understand what exactly you did differently and how you modified the WW2 Infantry. What if I were to try to help you out still using this new style? What that be helpfull or do you want to be in charge now?

This would be an example of the I Corps, 1st Division in the form of the two seperate units done in your new and improved style Steph, the 147th New York and the 2nd Wisconsin respectively. I have to say I love this new style of infantry, I seriously never thought of applying Curt's unit poses to nineteenth century units though. I think I might just convert all the infantry units in Jules Verne to this very same style as well.
In any case let me know if this is to your likeing or if you want to shoulder the unit burden on this project.

Well the shoes and socks issue is one I'm sure can be corrected, as for the hat's Gareth I used the Gurkha hat on the 2nd Wisconsin because I honestly felt the shape and look of the hat best matched the refernce photo attatched below.
Also, I too was surprised to find this reference photo of the 1st Virginia Infantry myself as my first thought was that it looked more like a Russian WW1 infantry than a Confederate regular from the Civil War. Still, it was they're uniform evidently.

Well I can appreciate what your going for then Steph, if you have your own vision for what the units should look like then thats the definate way they should be.
These were the last of the bunch that I made up based on your mod's, the Mississippi Legion, the 42nd North Carolina Infantry and the 10th South Carolina Infantry.

Actually Steph since your new infantry style blows my old Civil War mods away I'd suggest you go with one of these two fellers here to represent the II Corps, 2nd Division 17th Virginia.
In my humble opinion .
