I can't understand why there is no thread yet on E3; maybe everyone is still busy harvesting the hundreds of video's, screenshots and info which became available today.


But I am absolutely astounded, amazed. There are so many great games out there that have blown me away.

I remember when Doom 3 and Half Life 2 were amazing, but even then I could say to myself "It can be better", but after today, I can't say that so easily anymore.

Seriously, go check this stuff out. The PS3 is an amazingly powerful console, as is Xbox360, but it appears the PS3 is slightly more powerful.

I think the PS3 is a major disappointment from what Sony strongly hinted at before (4 cell processors at 4.6GHz). While it's faster on paper, its GPU is a generation behind the Xbox 360's and its CPU is essentially a massive vector processor that is far less efficient than the more-traditional tri-core Xbox 360 CPU.

Pah, who cares about Xbox2/PS3 rivalries anyway? Let's look at what games are coming out for the computer in the near future.

This Hellsomething game set in London looks kinda fun - a FPSRPG - you don't have to aim, your characters "aiming skill" does that... hmmm... could either be awesome or rubbish.

Fallout 3... let's PRAY Betheseda make a good game here, and not some crappy "Morrowind in the future" thing. It better have turn based combat or it ain't no Fallout

Don't give a crap about the console games... but of real games, Oblivion seems to look great, and F.E.A.R. can actually be a very interesting shooter, if Monolith gets it right.

I wonder about the kind of rock-paper-scissors strengths of units they hinted at in the interview... A very RTS thing to do. Seems like it could go either way - be cool, or totally suck. I'm excited to see how it pans out though.

Im not a console user, but I do have to admit that the graphics power on the XBox360 and PS3 are above PC's abilities. However, by the time those two consoles are released, the PC will have a more powerful gfx card - which I will happily get, and boast over the pathetic console users.

oh and.. what IS nVidia's plan for the future? What is their next amazing card? is the SLI really worth it? I am looking at the GeForce6800 Ultra, but I'd rather wait for a card that is more powerful than what I see on the two console machines.

A GPU based on the design of the R500 in the Xbox 360 is due out in a couple years on the PC, and will likely cost $600 for the card alone.

Nvidia's coming out with the G70 sometime later this year, quite a bit faster than the 6800. That's what's in the PS3, more or less.

Though you can usually get ~50% more performance out of consoles since there's no abstraction layers like the PC.

Yes, but that's not the design of the chip in the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 uses the fabled "R500" (don't let the number fool you). It's basically a fundamentally new design. For games designed for it, it'll have much, much more efficient performance than the R520/G70. The downside is games designed for the old architecture styles (R520/G70) would run quite a bit slower on the R500.

So it'll come in a couple years on the PC front still. It's there today (well, November) in the console world.

There are no "vertex" or "pixel" shaders on the R500. There are 48 tiny processors that can do either. It's more powerful, and more flexible.
