Doing wrong things for the right reason doesn't make them right, does it? If a government thinks its country must go to war, it is the government's obligation to explain to the people why that is the case, for, after all, does a government not exist to take care of its people? If it has no explanation to offer that would convince a reasonable person, then it is therefore wrong, for the simple reason that it is no longer supporting the interests of its people.

At least that's the theory. In practice, of course, there is the other argument that the government is there to look after the interests of its people because the people are too stupid to handle it themselves, and therefore, the opinion of the majority doesn't matter for it is uninformed and uneducated any way, so it is useless to try to convince the majority that what the government deems to be the right course of action is, indeed, so.

I disagreed with the Iraqi war, and the war in Afghanistan. For that reason I wasn't inclined to defend those who argued for Iraq and Afghanistan, or for those who argued for Afghanistan and against Iraq.

no i don't think its immoral to refuse the draft.
if they were to reinstate the draft here.
i would do everything i could to help my son avoid it.
hes totally against war. and though my family has a long history of military service.. i would support him in his choice.

It is immoral to flee the country because you disagree with the draft. We are not citizens by smorgasbord, choosing the laws we live by.

However, fleeing the country because you disagree with the morality of the war is another matter. That is, it would be immoral to kill other people in support of a cause which you oppose.

It goes without saying that, if you oppose all wars, you should not be drafted.
