How did this game slip past me unnoticed? It's got some pretty good reviews, won rpg of the year, yet somehow I missed it.

I've pretty much already decided to order it. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on it.

I've played it quite a bit (went through the game with two different characters).

Very good game. The musical score can get boring, but the steampunk/magical atmosphere is very well done, and the game is very enjoyable. It's just as open as Fallout (though it's not as funny), and very interesting

It might all sound the same (although there are actually quite a number of different songs, they just all blend into one another very subtley), but it's a great score, and perfect for the game.

It's very well done, but it can get boring. The gameplay makes up for it, but when there are downtimes, the music certainly doesn(t help you remaining excited

It has one of the most unique stories I've every been exposed to in a game due to some rather interesting turns.

The thing about choosing either magic or science....choose one and go all the way.

Apoc got me to get it and though I never finished it, it wasn't too bad. My attention merely wandered after a while like it usually does.

I have it on order. should arrive in 5 days or so. possibly sooner.

I still haven't decided what kind of character to play. It looks similar to Fallout in ways, so I think I'll like it.

Maybe I just suck, but the game became too difficult for me when I tried to do a scientsy type who used firearms a lot and was perceptive and brainy. The fact that his party members started to hate him for no apparent reason contributed to this.

I bought it a while back, and played about 10 hours of it, but the story never really took off, so I shelved it and moved on to another game ... Looked nice, though.

My best char was a brainy gunner, and even though it's frustrating at the beginning, it's insanely powerful toward the end. The lazors roxxoz my boxxorz

I hear it's more difficult to use firearms. I probably won't do that for my first run through the game.

I may do melee or magic. Probably melee, as that's usually the easiest to start a new game with.

It's hard to go completely melee...if you do, at least be able to make grenades. Molotov cocktails are pretty much needed for a technology build. You can make a lot of them fairly easily and they were my main starting weapon early on.

Only get party members that like what you like in terms of magic or tech. Then they won't make you. Healing is also a lot easier since techs can't heal magics and magics can't heal techs. Well, they can but not well.

One party member is an exception. I don't want to spoil things yet, but keep me posted on your progress and I will give you a hint when you get there. This character is awesome, but if you forget to do something, the character is lost. I forgot to do this before and restarted my character after quite a bit of gameplay just because of this character.

Melee characters are in my opinion the easiest in this game, particularly considering that you can be meleer and magician at the same time.
But the game is awesome. Using a gnome with high charisma and talking one's way out of most situations is really funny (the only problem being there is one dungeon where you are bound to fight, unless maybe you're very very very sneaky).
Playing a very dumb half ogre or an ugly half orc are also very funny experiences.

got the game today. I just installed it.

The good news is the install went fine, and the game runs. I just picked a premade character and went through the opening movie and conversation and walked around for a little bit.

The bad news is I have no manual . I have a legit copy of the game, but it's packaged through one of those 3rd party discount software places. They only sent me a case and 2 cd's in a box similar to the old console game boxes. It has no room for a manual.

does anyone know where I can download the manual? The company I bought the game from offers to sell me the manual, but I already paid enough for the game I believe. I would like to get the manual for free.

I'm assuming since this is a game that was repackaged, it doesn't need a patch. Or maybe it does?

come to think of it, I don't think Planescape: Torment came with a manual either. It was a game repackaged with another game that sold for $9.99 at walmart. but I think it had a pdf file...

but I should check if the manual is on the CD in pdf format. I forgot to check that. brb

how about that, the manual is on the CD. I feel like an idiot.

Most of these repackaged games do come with the manuals on the CD's. actually many games come with the manuals on the CD's anyways and forgo the printed manual (or have an abbreviated version of it).

and it's only 190 pages. . This could take me a while, and I have to wake up early. I won't get a chance to play this till tomorrow night, but I'll probably be too tired from waking up early...

ahh, now that I finally finished reading the manual, I can play the game.

It was actually a pretty good manual I must say. Actually I need to do some posting here before I can play the game. And then I need some sleep. I think I'll quit work again so I have more time to play computer games.

The character design and concept is amazing, but personally it was too hard for me, I got rid of the game after being unable to get past the *#$* bridge with several characters.

Good luck with it- it's a very fulfilling system!

The bridge is really awful, I agree. I had to level-up for quite a while, spent all my luck points, and only made it through with a few points of health left. It would definitely need some tweaking.

DrSpike- you try the bridge and tell me what you think

It's worse than the volcanic bridge with the kobolds in Baldurs Gate, if you can believe that... and since it's much much simpler an encounter than BG's bridge- that really is VERY difficult to believe.

Suffering from ads?

hmm, we'll see. The combat has been pretty easy so far. Though I went unconcious once from a critical failure of some kind. Is there any way to get combat messages so I can tell what the hell is going on?

But I admit, I've only done the first map and that cave.

I wasn't sure where to put my points. There are so few points to spend. Only 5 points at character creation. I put most into my attributes and one for a healing spell.

I was going to do a sort of fighter/mage hybrid. No technology. I even chose the upbringing that gives a bonus to magic, but penalty to tecnology. I'm also a half elf. But now it says I can't pick up any technology items .

What bridge are we talking about here? I remember the first bridge but that had several options in how to get across... I don't really remember any areas where I truly had trouble it was more like I didn't have sufficient information sometimes to complete a quest and would spend forever hunting down everyone to talk to.

Yeah, it's the one with a group of bandits. IIRC there was a way to get around it without a fight, but that was an alignment option I did not want to take.

If you hire the ogre in the pub, the bridge is no problem at all.
