Map settings: Same as before? Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

This is a seperate question from whether we want the map to be modded for "balance" or not. We can have the same setting applied to the map AND have it modded to be "balanced".

Do we want the same settings as in the last round?

Switch to pangaea, for a challenge! Otherwise, everything else is fine.

Yes... I much prefer continents to pangaea for this level of contest (as opposed to the many regular PBEMs out there).

Suffering from ads?

Just curious....who was the other knucklehead that voted "No?"

For the record, I have no problem with a Continents game. I just thought that a Pangaea map might be a nice way to eliminate the 2-against-1 strategy that seems to happen on each continent in these games. Or as it may be better known here: the "Let's get CDG (or GCA)" tactic.

Of course, we have never been on the receiving end of this action, and I am sure that our diplomtic team will ensure that this tradition continues. Just another friendly FYI.

Usually when people are picking teams, like say in baseball or football or whatever they usually go for the best players as their first picks. Well, honestly, I believe APO would qualify as one of those best players. So, would two other teams choose to try and gang up on one of the "best" players in the game? Or, would one or both of those teams try to get APO on their side? I mean they know it's not only their Contentent they have to worry about, but the other one as well. So, choosing sides very early in a Diplo game happens whether we like it or not. Us having the rep we do gives us a leg up on getting other teams to join us rather than joining up with another against us.

PAL chose us last time just because they thought we are the better choice. I think they have regretted this because it was apparent they could sweep away both us and CDG but I don't complain they didn't

If it were to have been APO and CDG versus PAL it would have been bloody for all concerned. PAL may have come out on top, or maybe not; the point is that any team left after that war would be left severly crippled as compared to the other Continent.

We nor PAL saw that as favorable to our positions in the game as to insuring our repective trips to the finals. The best thing was for our Continent to come out on top of the other one so that we could pick off a two Civs from the other Continent. (once CDG left this one) We figured that we could talk one of the Civs, preferably not the weakest one, to go 3 on 2 to get the 3 to the finals.

IMO PAL did not want to gift the victory to the other two teams. Additionally they wanted to make friends for the final round

It's a double-edged sword BF. Ultimately all other teams know our capability and know that we'll be a threat... eventually. Thus, don't expect alliances to last any more than they fullfill someone's convenience.

I say, ally, use them, backstab. Ally, use them, backstab. Worked for GoW...

Put an end to popups!

Yep. I wouldn't object to changing the barb setting, but I like Continents for a standard demogame. And keeping all the terrain settings in the middle is usually the best compromise to avoid promoting any map-dependant traits.

Good Grief, it looks like they want to poll every map setting again.

I think we stick with "everything as before" or we will never get to the start.

I'll ask if we can get a simple yes or no poll on the current map settings. emperor seems a little too enthusiastic at times.

All my correspondence on the new Map Forum will be taking place in this thread. I can be pretty long-winded at times and really don't want to force you guys to read the same thing from me in several different threads (it's just cut 'n paste for me! ).

EDIT: Okay, just this once........

quote:
Since our blanket poll is more than conclusive, I'll go ahead and post our "decided" choices in the appropriate threads. I'll also let emperor know that these choices were determined by a blanket poll issued to confirm the settings from last game.

If other teams get the message, this should be a smooth process.

I don't think we've voted on Difficulty, have we?

DZ?

Edit: Oh, right, we just posted we went with everything. But it seems only one vote has been counted for difficulty. Might want to lock Emperor in.
