Evo-Games has opened their Map Forum, which is being run by E-G mapmaker emperor.
By June 11th, I'll need to submit our preferences on the following criteria (most which we have already hammered out in the Map Settings:Same as Before? poll):
Land Form - Decided: Continents
Terrain Types - Decided: 4 Million / Normal / Temperate
Ocean % and Rivers - What % of ocean do we want? Do we want our world to contain an abundance of rivers, or flatlands as far as the eye can see?
Resources - Besides a request for even distribution , do we have any agenda regarding resources?
Map Size - Decided: Standard
Starting Locations - How far apart do we want to be from our neighbors? Do we care?
Barbs/Goodies - Decided: Restless
<><><><><><>
Please feel free to check out the Map Forum for further elaboration and discussion on the above questions.
As far as I can see, we have 4 threads settled and should hold discussion on the other three threads. I believe that as long as the map is built as fairly as possible, we should make minimal suggestions on the open items so that we maintain some element of surpise.
What does everyone think?

Since our blanket poll is more than conclusive, I'll go ahead and post our "decided" choices in the appropriate threads. I'll also let emperor know that these choices were determined by a blanket poll issued to confirm the settings from last game.
If other teams get the message, this should be a smooth process.
emperor has already stated in his "Rules" thread that he wouldn't be starting the map until late June anyway. So time is really not much of a factor, it seems.

I would like as much land area to work with as possible. I say Minimal oceans.
As for number of Rivera, I say as many as possible, with the majority of them where we will start
I say that there should be enough that you don't have to go almost 1/4 of the map just to get to freah water to Irrigate (That had happened to me in a PBEM). But we will also need as much fresh water as possible, because of Agri trait will really have a good deal with them.

Hmmm, Everyone should have Ivory available, besides 2 other Luxs.
Lots of Cows, lots of Sugar, lot and lots of everything....

As far away from each other as possible. This will give ua a little more time, incase we have a neighbor that wants our early destruction. The further away, the less chance of them coveting our lands (like we had done with CDG).

I guess we need to answer just a few questions.

Posted by emperor at the UN:
I DO actually need people to reply on certain issues that aren't covered by the simple "go by the previous game" rule:
- It's extremely important for me to know about starting locations, PARTICULARLY if there are some big "no-no's". (For instance, are single-player islands forbidden?)
- I need to know how everyone wants resources managed. Am I going to do an all:all layout, where everyone has equal access to all strategic resources, and everyone has the same number of luxuries in their vicinity, etc? Or shall I (intelligently) mix and match, meaning some civs would not necessarily get any of one resource but might get another resource that a different civ doesn't have? (I think, using my experience at the game, that I could do this and still keep the map fairly balanced.)
- And also, just confirming, the ocean percentage was 70% in the last game, correct?

1. Do we want..
a. 2 Civs each Continent (3 Continents)
b. 3 Civs each Continent (2 Continents)
c. 6 Civs each Continent (1 Continent)
d. Surprise us!
2. De we want..
a. Same resources available to all Civs with same amount of lux available. {Balance completey}
b. Differeing amount of resources available(mix it up), with same amount of lux available. {Balance lux only}
c. Mix it up on both, but try to balance it a bit. {Semi balance resources and lux}
d. Mix it up on both, let the game put down the resources and lux and let it stand as is.
3. I think 70% is the percent of Ocean we want, so we just need to answer 1 & 2.
Let's discuss for a bit then hold a poll.

1. I believe most random Continents maps would not end up with a pangea continent, so no to that. I'd also say no to single player islands, as that can be either very bad or very good depending on the circumstances. (For instance, Lego in the PTWDG; never having to fight a war to get land and our own complete coastline was quite advantageous.)
As far as the specifics of the starting location, make sure to mention that food should be watched and balanced, especially in the range of the starting location where the capital can get it, but also in the surrounding low-corruption area, where food pumps can also be set up once a settler can be built. Pop is power, and food is pop. If we again find ourselves with one team starting with a flood plain wheat by their capitol and another without any in the initial radius... well, emperor won't have done his job.
2. I'd say semi mix. No civ should be out of a resource, but I think it would be okay for some to have a given resource be more accessible than others. Just don't leave civs without fairly good access to the first two resources of Iron and Horses (or, make them equally difficult to secure).

terrain, about 8, say let everybody have enough space for 3 decent cities (tight build, CxxC)
Resources, strategic and lux, 0, except for ivory, which everyone should have access to.
Bonus food is the trick one. I would suggest that every team have either no bonus food, which is a fair as possible, or have the capital capable of +3 or +4 fpt. Problem is that we are (or rather, I am) becoming too academic about it if we start asking for specific amounts of food, and that is why I suggested the no bonus food within so far of the capital point.

although PAL gained great superiority having excellent starting position I think we should leave it random for everything.
Half the game is to overcome the lack of resources or the bad terrain.
So - everything random with balance only about the starting position if it is soo bad (like tundra or lack of rivers; but reading the emperor's pot he is capable enough to estimate whether a position is good or bad). But no information about the number of civs on each continent, strat resources for everyone within their grasp etc.

I like a bit of randomness.
No iron ... start a war & build horses.
luxuries placed right in the middle of two civs....land grab or conceed and fight for it later.
But late game strategic resources should definately be balanced.
Would hate to find no uranium in the modern age.
