	decorating tips Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

OK! I now start having to afford to decorate my place up, FINALLY! NOT a lot of money to spend, mind you. Cheaper the better, but I'll be living in this apartment for at least 3 years and I appreciate nice things, I'm tired of the white plain walls, one chair and one computer desk.

Let me get you my blueprint so you can help me out.

Ok this is exactly what my places is like. It's 35.5 square meters.

Olohuone = Living room
Keittiö = kitchen

I keep my bed in ALKOVI, it fits there perfectly and I can't think any place else I'd put it, the only other place it fit would be my living room, which I intend to make 'the nice place', so no beds in there.

Currently I have nothing else, except my computer desk in the lower left corner in my living room (next to window) and chair with it. That's it.

I need things. I need sofa, I need solutions, space is essential. The walls are white, so I'm thinking I need something on my walls. I was thinkign I would check out some GOOD looking QUALITY posters, frame them and put some of them on.. cheap way to get some 'art' there. But good looking posters, not some commercials.

A bean bag would be one solution for extra sitting spot and they are not too expensive either.
I need also a coffee table at least.

You want to make the room look bigger and give the illusion of more space? Futons serve as brilliant couches, with beanbags as additional seats. Low coffee tables. Keep things close to the ground but comfortable. Contrast with tall and narrow things like bookcases or CD racks. Avoid bold colours like red because it draws attention to the piece. You want something that the eye slides off of and works with the room, not against it. Black is brilliant because it's hard to grasp exact dimensions on black furniture. Also goes well with white walls. Use the walls as your source of colour and vividness. I prefer current North Korean propoganda as its very active and vivid (and ironicly displayed in a posh western setting). Your tastes may vary.

Also what I'm after.. OK I have patience, right? I can dig every item single handedly where I can find them, and try to get them on best price. I don't think my low budget is so much an obstacle, because I do have time and patience. The key is that I want to make it look good, not just another student box. I'm ready to work on it.

I like kind of.. 'smart' look, but warm and comfortable at the same time. I'm bad at explaining these things. I like stylish things. And most of all it should be fairly consistent, and I don't look for the style where every piece is gathered around the world and it looks just like that. It needs consistency. I want to make it look like more quality and style, so that the actual money spent on it will be the real shocker .

My knowledge of finnish blueprint abbreviations is limited but just working off of the scale of the thing, you might be able to take one corner of the Olohuone and give it a communal feel with coffee table, bean bags and conversation pieces while another part of the room could be more intimate, with a proper sofa, lamp, maybe a nice throw blanket to curl up in during the cold winter with a book.

Books tend to be essential. You can have all the PDA's you want with all the e-books on the world stored on them but the last 1000 years of cultural impressions die slowly. Books, properly done, give most places a bit of an intellectual air. And give guests something to form opinions about you from. Maybe a small bookcase or just a few stacked together on a shelf or lazily on the coffee table.

Ohh, the 'kaide' in the lower right corner of living room is french balcony (means no balcony), a narrow door opens and you can squeeze yourself out for a smoke and lean on the bars

The marking on this side is window. You can see the same in the kitchen. Those are the two big windows. Also one small one in bathroom. The only good window is in the living room because the one in the kitchen opens up to the outside hall way that is fairly busy.

The markings on toilet doesn't really matter, the ones in the kitchen are the norm like sink, the oven etc. The rest of them squares in ALKOVI and in living room are basically closets.

Good. Windows are good at giving the illusion of space.

*sigh* Give me €500, a place to sleep and a bottle of good red wine and I could give you a house of the gods.

Instead I toil away in labs, working on genes and chemicals.

To be fair, I also really enjoy the biochemistry.

It's just hard to combine that and interior design into one career.

Ever consider moving the computer into the bedroom and devoting the living room entirely to communal needs? Or at least, making sure it doesn't dominate the living room by being the most obvious part of it.

I so do hate it when people make TV's or computers the central piece of a room.

also, people, I'm looking for the whole nine yards. I got nothing now. I need tips on colours, any jungle items (plants maybe?), lights, EVERYTHING. Consider it has NOTHING else except what I told you (computer desk, chair to go with it).

I need pictures, suggest me makers and models, suggest me everything, be as accurate as possible or just give directions. Show me photos, ask me questions.

In return I will do the best I can, and I will take photos when it's all over and show you my place (maybe flash a nipple for you guys).

If there are little things sold on the internet, let me know, show me the link and the exact product you recommend. Everything from art to comfort, from design to .. bleh you got the idea.

My problem is I know what I like and I have strong opinions on if I like it or not. I just need to see it first

Starchild, the ALKOVI is not big enough for my computer desk and computer. Even if I take the bed out of there, well then it's big enough, but where the computer now is, is also the place for the internet connection (cable plug) .. I CAN move it around the living room though with long enough cable. I MIGHT be able to move it all the way to ALKOVI where my bed now is, but the two won't fit together.

Can you add to the blue print the location and rough size of your current desk, computer, chair, and bed? Also, mark windows clearly and any useful outlets

Vinyl is the nasty plastic stuff that's omnipresent in kitchens. Often with a horrible design or meant to look like ceramic/wood but just looks like plastic with stains.

yeah then I got vinyl.. no shelving, put I'm allowed to do that. Actually I'm quite free to do most things, I think the limit goes on painting and knocking down walls, though I CAN paint at least with white (original colour), not sure if I can paint other colours.

plug connectors are everywhere, but only one for internet (and tv cable) and those are under the comp desk.

oh man I don't know... but the south window (the one next to comp desk) sees the sunlight as the sun rises in the morning. It gets hella hot in fact in living room because of this, if I don't open the 'balcony' door.

Aww, you didn't need to translate the measurements over into feet.

Let's see....the ET might be a good place for a few plants. Help to provide a break between the entrance/kitchen and the lounge/bedroom. A nice poster on the wall would also serve to make it interesting it its own regard instead of just a odd snub-hallway. I'm liking the vintage art deco look currently.

Pity about the location of the computer. Best maybe to turn the area into a semi-professional area. Nice, comfortable chair, CD rack, hmmmm.
