Yea I was one who voted for the Zulu too. I agree they add flavor, It just becomes a different game when the Zulu are in town.

And why would ANY of these listed civs be left out. The game is supposed to be getting better, right?
I heard that if Civ4 you'd be able to start at different points in history. Wouldn't it make sense to offer more civs in Civ4 but that only some civs would be available at different points in history? Americans in 4000BC? Babylonians in 1850AD?
More missed opportunities.
I voted Greek. How could you release Civ without Greece?

I know you aren't really complaining about it, Alexander01, but you hinted on something that I can't stand: when people complain about expansions, wanting everything up front, and say they only release them to make more money.
Do they? Yes of course they make more money. But they rely on two truths, IMO. The first being that the average player will not play a Civ game continually until the next edition comes out. Thus, spreading out new features, scenarios and playable civs through expansions keeps the interest alive, or rekindles it if a player stopped playing after a few months. This is what keeps Civilization alive for the 'masses'. The second truth is that they believe that we, the more dedicated players (most people posting here have been members for many years already) will not complain if they release expansions because we love Sid, we love Civ (and no I don't care if he rides around in a Murcielago with the profits), and we always will, if not for this game than for what he brought to the computer gaming world. We should be the core, not the complaining stereotypical compgeeks some of us end up looking like. "Down with corporations" etc etc.
Personally, 18 civs to start with is fine. Chances are, I'll be playing Epic games PvM and will be having fun going PvP with 18 civs to choose from for a while. I'm sure 18 epic games for someone who can't play for more than an hour or two a night, coupled with the fact that what makes civ games so amazing to begin with, IMO, is the fact that every game is different even if all the civs are the same, is more than enough. I'm also willing to bet the first expansion will come out within a year of the game's release anyway. Heck if the game came out with 12 civs I'd still buy it, I'm sure most all of us still would.
The only thing that would be upsetting to me is if the game was released heavily bugged. Civ3 had a lot of patches soon after its release which was kind of a nuisance, but I only had the ship crash once and thats what auto-save is for. I recently bought Stronghold 2 and my God what a terrible mistake that was. The AI is messed up and the game crashes everytime I play without fail. Its like a random counter that counts down until the game inevitably closes to desktop.
All in all, I'd rather have a game with a dozen starting Civs and a clean, near-perfect performance track and have 3 or more expansions of civs than a game with 30+ civs and enough bugs to make another crappy Starship Trooper sequel.
Heck, at least this isn't a PPM MMORPG where you have to pay to wait for expansions to be introduced and it makes you so annoyed you cancel your membership and start to train yourself to say Ascalon instead of Azaroth
Cheers

I know what you mean. I'm just an idealist.
I would also prefer a well-polished upcoming Civ4 to a buggy CTP remix.
I just have fun nagging sometimes.
