I seriously don't see what's so wrong abou the statement in the OP.

A lobby of gay veterans has lobbied. It didn't impact the current policies of Texas. What I see is outrage (the Repugs don't care for our veterans!!1 ) at the fact that veterans couldn't obtain something they wanted after lobbying.

If there is tomorrow a homophobe veteran association that lobbies Massachussettes so that it bans gay marriage, and if this lobby is turned down, will you guys scream "liberals don't support the troops!!1 " ?

While the best French wine is indeed a mighty thing to behold, the weather there is too unpriductable, and a bad year is just as likely as a good one. Italian wines are almost always better than French, except when France has a great year. This, however, is a recent phenomenon, since Italy didn't have quality appelations until the 80s.

Because what gay veterans would like to have is equal rights.

Homophobic veterans are not asking for equal rights.

So, basically, the reason why you agree with them is because you agree with their cause, NOT because they're veterans.

I agree with their cause too. But I don't think their status as veterans gives them any special right of being more listened to than any other citizen.

The "Conservatives don't support the troops!!1" argument is off-topic at best. At worst, it's an emotional manipulation, as it surfs on America's pro-military mentality to get a message across.

Things are changing. Our wine industry is taking steps to produce a homogeneous taste every year.

The idea is to point out the hypocracy of the republicans (who generally support the veterans above pretty much everything short of the oil business and venerate their service to the country in the military as one of the best things those soldiers could have done). Although it does come off as off-topic I think.

Wow, for a governor to tell gay veterans to leave if they don't like it, this has got to be a new low.

Just what price does one need to pay for respect and equality in one's own country? Putting your life on the line in combat isn't enough? I guess it isn't ... in Texas.

Well if the governor had any spine, I'm sure he could have chosen a more tactful approach. Or -- god forbid -- sincere, respectful approach.

lack of "spine" = disagreement with your views?

Face facts, you've got a big portion of the country who views homosexuality as a chosen, sinful, deviate behavior which disgusts them. Why would you expect them to be "tactful" or "respectful."

We're still dicking around with evolution in schools, ten commandments statues in state buildings, and comparisons of abortion to the holocaust and genocide in this country, so not only are there tens of millions of people in this country who likely agree with Perry, they're a far more monolithic, "moral issues" driven voting bloc than are those who either openly support gay marriage, or those who really don't care.

When these political weasels get into the field, get their hands dirty and actually do something
to defend the USA in times of war, then they can have the right to deride the brave GIs…

Of whatever sexual orientation.

Moronic religious dribble from politicians is by far the biggest danger to the USA these days...

It doesn't have to be moronic religious drivel specifically, there's more than enough moronic drivel of every kind coming from our beloved politicians.
