Are you excited about civ 4? Tired of ads?

I am not. I didn't even know that civ 4 was coming out until stumbling on it on gamespot by accident. After a few weeks I fianly came over here to see if it was true.

I see it is but can't be excited for it, after so being disapointed with Civ3 and other games.

Are you guys and galls excited about Civ 4 and why or why not?

I'm not excited; but I am interested.

They screwed Civ3 up, and by the looks of things they are screwing Civ4 up too - however that is with current information that I know of. The only real feature that surprises me is the fact you can model your own government.

No great leaps or jumps for Civ yet it seems.

I was excited by the fact that the game will be revamped. However...

http://www.apolyton.net/forums/show...threadid=135078

That turned me off a little... such that I would not buy the game upon the initial release.

Oh my
After the first months of enthousiasm finally the negative feelings have entered the board.

All is looking bright on the cIV front, but of course internet wouldn't be the internet if there wouldn't be huge ammounts of people who can't resist to only spread negative feelings, even BEFORE a release.

Never enough huh. Never satisfied.
It doesn't matter how good something is, some people will always voice their criticism. Things need to be exactly done the way they want it to be done.

Get a life, enjoy your life, instead of bashing and critisizing your way through it.

Please move over from this messageboard and don't poison it. In fact: please disconnect from the internet. I'm ashamed for being part of this "never enough / never satisfied" race.

The original post in that thread is simply wrong, and a classic case of judging before the release. It really amazes me anone can already know that Civ4 will turn out bad if the game hasn't been released yet, heck, there is not even a single preview of a close-to-gold version, because the game is another half a year away from its release.

Put an end to popups!

Yolky, I propose that you put your hand on Soren's Powerpoint. Give a look at CivFanatics website if you want it, since I know it's there.

It's very interesting, and showing their vision of Civ just as how it works in the gaming business on many interesting aspects.

I expect a sunny future

Oh, I'm sorry, here's someone with his HOLY OPINION.
How could I be so wrong! Anybody must always be allowed to spoil everybody's fun by voicing his OPINION! Since OPINIONS are most holy and trustworthy!

Dude, the internet's biggest problem is the huge ammount of whiners that crowd messageboards after or before new releases of music / games / movies, only to whine about. How it sucks big time how it is evil how it's the end of the earth. etc. etc. etc.

Those opinions are sick and drive me crazy.
I have no problem with good criticism. But that's not heard in this thread.

It's just whining.

How are they spoiling your fun exactly? And if their views are so ridiculous as you claim, why cant other people reading it be trusted to make their own judgement? Why must we silence everyone that disagrees with you? You sound like a bible-basher.

Jesus, Cybershy, why don't you slap a big "CONFORM" button across every one of your posts if this is how you are going to react to criticism. This forum has a really odd propensity for jumping all over people who do not immediately think Civ IV is going to be "teh awesome!" Those of us who think this game will not be a perfect addition to the Altar of Sid are basing it on the same information you have, and our opinions are just as valid. We would not be posting here if we did not hope Civ IV would be the best game Firaxis could possibly make -- and there are a lot of grounds for optimism -- but I for one do not want to be sorely disappointed again as with Civ III.

No, I say that people who just come here for baseless whining and complaining should shut up.
For some people that's the same as what you say. But for others it's not.

Just stop the whining about something that's not released yet.
Why it spoiles our fun? Because in several weeks / months this forum will be flooded by people like them. Whining and crying how cIV is not like cIIIv or cIIv or cIv.
And how it does not fit their imagination. And how they are angry because the flemish, the scots, the swedes, the south-albanian or the italian are not in the game.

Markos: Maybe a good idea to make a "Baseless complaining thread" in which everybody is allowed to complain in every baseless way he/she wants!

Fair enough. If you did not like the previous ones, why should you bother with the new one? Same applies to any kind of games.

But, why did you go here at all, if you do not care about CIV? Seems to me like a slight contradiction.

Yes, very much so. I just love the series' complexity, which I fail to find in any other game of this kind (save for MOO, but that is a different game in many ways).

yup, I'm really excited about the game, and I can't wait to get the CD. I'll even pre-order it from America to get it ASAP (if CIV is going to be released in America prior to being released in Europe).

I hope AU can really get a grasp of the modability of the game. If they can, then this game can last for literally decades.

Civilization 2 was my first civ game and I couldnt stop playing it for about a year.
I think its hard to recapture that kind of excitment over a game but maybe Civ4 will bring some of it back.
After all who else is making turn base startegy games like this that we want to invest are time in . Maybe Galciv2.

I'd just like to point out to Cybershy that the two people who 'whined' before you posted your first post, were not actually whining, we were just stating the fact that we were interested, but not excited.

For me, I cannot be excited about something I don't know; agree?

I agree, you get excited about things before you get them. I mean, you'll be excited to play the first game, you'll be excited during the game, but once it's finished you won't be excited about it anymore, you'll be excited about the next game you're going to play.

However, there is over excitement. Expecting this to be the civ to end all civs is not an option, some people want something similar to civ2 some want something like ctp2 and a lot of the polls are like 50-50 on some features. So I can agree that not everyone will get what they want.

You have to read my post carefully; I said I cannot be excited about what I don't know.

I know that CivIV is coming out. I'm not excited about that.
I have seen all of CivIV's screenshots and gameplay deatils. I am not excited about them either.

I CAN base my excitement on assumptions and/or expectations, but history has taught me well to avoid doing this.
