What books have you purchased recently? Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

Today I made a bargain

Talon of the Silver Hawk - Raymond Feist
The Elder Gods pt 1 & 2 - David Eddings
Belgarath The Sorcerer - David Eddings

for $1.30 each! Ok the Elder gods will probably suck donkey balls like everything else Eddings written post-Belgariad but hope springs eternal

I also bought "TV" by Jean Philippe Touissant and "Popular Music from Vittula" by Mikael Niemi as well as a textbook on beginners German and a text book on mathematics for senior high school (I thought I´d brush up on my german and my math...)

The whole bundle didn´t cost more that $16.50

Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown)
The World is Flat (Tom Friedman - I do not recommend this book if you are looking for economics. its more of a sociology/technological type deal. easy to read, but not technical enough for me. it was only marginally interesting for me.)

I actually hardly ever buy books anymore. Whatever I want is available at the public library. Plus I have very little time to read anyway

"Bushland" by that lady Pulizer Prize winner from the NY Times. I don't recommend it.

"Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince."

J.G. Ballard, Millenium People. Read it. It was ok, but I don't recommend it.

Alfred Bester, The Demolished Man. Reading it right know. Its pretty good, actually.

I also bought the next Harry Potter novel. 40% off if you preordered it. I figured that I would buy it anyway, just to see what happens next. I didn't like the last two very much. They were like bad Robert Ludlum novels IMO. (What am I saying? All Ludlum novels are bad.) They were bad, but they were never boring...

Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

I do not typically buy books from amazon or Barnes and Noble anymore, generally because of lack of funds. Philly has ample used book stores (go to the Book Trader if you find yourself in the city) and my local library in Connecticut runs semi-annual used booksales that allowed me to purchase thirteen books for less than $5.

The most recent purchases, from aforementioned book sale, included ...

Eugene Onegin by Pushkin
Apprenticeship of Wilhelm Meister by Goethe
Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser
Howard's End by EM Forster
Portrait of a Lady by Henry James
English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
Absalom, Absalom by William Faulkner (blessedly purchased before Oprah stained it)

And others ... Most of my new books are purchased for school.

Just finished Elder Gods 1. It's about what you'd expect, including an Aphrael type.

I also bought:

Jackal of Nar by John Marco

Shallows of Night by Eric van Lustbader(second book in a series that I was missing)

Reading The Sunset Warrior by Eric v. Lustbader(book one of The Sunset Warrior Cycle)

ACK!

Very good read, The Templars book.

I am amazed at how much pseudo-history surrounding the Templars gets sold at mainstream bookstores. If you enjoy the book, give The Northern Crusades by Eric Christiansen a read.
