Looks like everyone but BAT stacked their choices with Agr, too.

PAL picks Maya yet again. Any other repeats?

Probably make 1 enemy ... and 4 other friends.

Knowing how powerful Apo can be once they get going, I might just take the gamble.
Apo will probably use the limited GA to build, and extract a military revenge later. That will give me plenty of time to find allies, who would appreciate the fact I just crippled one of the major contenders.

Almost all took the Agri path. I would assume that India was the 3rd choice, as their UU doesn' require any resources.

But now, we know that we are on the same footing, compaired to most everyone else.

We are the only ones with bronze at the beginning?

India...well it's BAT, I doubt that they learned much during the last game. And they played like newbies, so perhaps they wanted to have India...
but doesn't matter much, does it?

APO: Sumeria - Agri & Sci - Starts with Pottery & Bronze Working - UU: Enkidu Warrior (1/2/1 - 10 shields, gets immediately).

BAT: India - Rel & Com - Starts with Ceremonial Burial & Alphabet - UU: War Elephant (4/3/2 - 70 shields, needs Chivalry Tech but no resources).

CBR: Dutch - Agri & Seafaring - Starts with Pottery & Alphabet - UU: Swiss Merks (1/4/1 -30 shields, needs Feudalism & Iron).

CDZ: Iroquois - Agri & Com - Starts with Pottery & Alphabet - UU: Mounted Warrior (3/1/2 - 30 shilelds, needs HBR & Horses).

CGN: Celts - Agri & Rel - Starts with Pottery & CB - UU: Gallic Swordsman (3/2/2 - 40 shields, needs IW & Iron).

PAL: Maya - Agri & Ind - Starts with Pottery & Masonry - UU: Javalin Thrower (2/2/1 + Enslave - 30 shields, needs Warrior Code but no resources).

Figure India to first research Pottery. Dutch will likely beeline to Philosophy but might go for BW first. Iroquois will go for WC, Wheel & HBR. Celts will likely go for BW and IW. Maya will likely go for WC.

I would expect us to go for either IW, Alphabet, with a possibility of Wheel/WC.

Iro and Dutch are the only 2 civs in a position to go for Philo right off, if they count on trading techs with someone else.

Not a single militerstic civ.

Actually, I think the one tech India will NOT go after first will be Pottery. They'll buy Pottery really cheap from the first civ they encounter.

The J.T. should only cost 20 shields like the Archer and Bab Bowmen. I figure the Mayas will probably go after Warrior Code

I figure the Dutch, Irq, and Indians will probably all go after Writting first.

Celts will probably research Bronze Working first.

We should resarch Iron Working first.

And yes to IW.

And to Sumeria. A great civ, and although the UU is an early age unit, it also guarantees us that we can not be taken out easily in the early game if someone was so inclined.

Hmm but that mean we have not the option to explore with standard warrior's. To explore with enkidu's can be worse - for the ga.

I think more about IW:
Will we trade the tech to other civs?
I think IW is one of the really important techs in this game and for us, every turn no other civ knows where the iron is, is good for us.
But if we don't share iron, we will have problems in the tech race, the other civs trades their techs and we have only bronze working for trading (pottery is only for india interesting). So we need a research-plan for not being the last civ in the tech race...

i'd say we have a good chance to try to research two techs first.
warrior code first. (probably many will try=>low chance)
iron working second (as all the others have to research BW first we also have a good chance to get it first even if we research WC before)

I would definately go for IW, to get one tech as the first civ, and try to score the SGL early. Besides, it is important overall, so good for trades.

I think some will try for Philosophy, probably the ones starting with Writing. I see no point chasing them, as we would lose.

Granted, I would also like to know where our Iron is located, I also would like to have an option for manoverability. This comes from The Wheel. I would also like to have some Archers, if anthing, for Barb Hunting (an archer/EW combo would be good for that). This requires WC.

This is based on Standard Map & Emporer Difficulty settings, with 6 civs (currently) in the game. The Base Cost is ALWAYS the same amount, no matter how many civs are present (different for map & Difficulty). The 1st to 5th Civ values are what the tech would cost if 1 to 5 other civs have that tech. This amount will be reduced if one or more teams are eliminated.

I would be inclined towards going for IW first, as knowing where that critical resource is before your neighbors can be a vital advantage.

The javelin thrower costs 30 shields, not 20 like the archer and Babylonian bowmen.

Iron working is fine by me. I always love knowing where my resources are. Anyone fancy getting the wheel after iron working?

Well, the thing is that the Irq are bound to pick the Wheel is their first tech. Our second tech depends a lot upon what we get trading our starting techs (primarly just BW unless we are very close to India) to neighbors for other starting techs.

That is the only downside. An astute opponent may take the risk of the reputation hit ti attack an Enkidu Warrior early, while we are still in despotism. We will need to be careful, and possible use other units asap.

If we do IW first, it will be awhile before we get the wheel or warrior code. We may use Enkidu's for the early local exploring, then hopefully get some chariots or archers out.
