It's unsurprising. While the infrastructure was a big minus for London, the communication campaign was much more dynamic. The fact that your delegation had many youths, instead of the usual politicians/businessmen strongly tipped the things in your favour IMO.

The fact that your PM also left Singapore in advance to go care for more important matters (global warming and African poverty) was also a positive signal that Chirac certainly didn't send.

All in all, you had a great communication, and maybe this will remind some people here that everything is not about grey old politicians

Well, I always expect the worst, maybe that's why I find it unsuprising

But seriously, I had no idea that we were the favourites until two days ago (I didn't care one iota until two days ago). But when I heard the focus on youth that was the signature of the London campaign, I thought that you'd win, though I still had a bit of hope for Paris.

I personally expect that your use of youth in your communication will be ripped off by pretty much everybody competing for the 2016 Olympics.

London has already had two summer games (1908 and 1948), Paris has only had one (1924). I was sure they'd give it to Paris instead of tipping the scales 3-1 to London. But then, if variety were an argument, the games might have gone to Madrid...

I think it's about time the games come close to me as well. It's always in some Ping Pong Asian country or in the fattie America. Now.. but then again I live in Ping Pong Asia or fattie US in 1012 anyway.. DAMN!



Congrats to UK, I wanted it here, well Paris would have been just as good IMO, but then again for me it doesn't matter which one got it.. who wants to give me roof over my head when I come over there for the 2 week festivities? Better be early than late..

I think the fact that the London delegation was led by an athlete (Coe, gold '80-'84)and a lot of the committee were recently retired gold medallists (Pinsent, Jackson etc) had a lot to do with it.

I don't think so: we had plenty of sprtsmen as well in our delegation. London's "plus" was the youths, and a radically future-oriented outlook.
