Full PM-box? Change here!

So, I have ben trying to drive out my Dirty Industry for about 15 years now, but have only been successful on newly zoned industrial parks.

I have tried putting manufacturing and Hi-tech taxes at zero, but to no avail. I think alot of it is the dirty industry pollutes the hell out of the land, making the cleaner industry not want to move in. Should I just bulldoze the Dirty Indutsty buildings and hope something better moves in?

Well since someone has to say it...

Please convert screen shots from PNG to JPG, as that will make them about 5x smaller. The only exception is graphs with all the "city" cropped out.

I played Tartarus for a few minutes and got a riot! =)

I've made something out of the small city between Ohnoes and Bubblevista.

Obsidian Cliffs '25

Noting that "Arms length island" was in fact not an Island, the Dictator corrected this with some tastful application of an orbital energy cannon, making a new canal for ferry traffic in the process .

The small city of Obsidian Cliffs is a playground for the rich and mad scientists, and rich mad scientists. But you wont find a clearly labelled Area51, nope. The advanced research labs and omninious machinerys of impending doom are hidden away inside innocent looking civilian buildings, like Baby Food factories. Atleast that's what it says on the tourism brochures.

The only way in and out of the Obsidian Cliffs community is via passenger ferry (or the road into the void where freight trucks go, but you don't want to go there!), internally an extensive bus system quickly and efficiently shuttles commuters and tourists around. The road networks look a little odd, but the patented 'Bus Lifts' are guaranteed 100% safe.

PS: Obsidian Cliffs will buy your garbage, but don't eat the babyfood.

Not much happened in the last five years, as most of the time was spent trying to recover from a residential and commercial demand crash after connecting to the regionwide transportation network in '25. I'm still getting no job icons though, and people abandoning their homes because they decide to take the monorail out of town and then complain about the commute time...

Yeah, sorry about sucking up your jobs. If it makes you feel better they are not stopping in my city, but going into T. Bay and beyond with all my residents

I spent 20 years trying to get people to live in my city, and then when they move in they leave again. Oddly enough all my indicators are still pegged.

I like the fancy new landmark Do landmarks do anything gameplay wise?

Landmarks increase desirability for Commercial development.

Floreat City & South Floreat 2030
Floreat City continues to prosper. Finally, the treasury is beginning to post healthy profits, now that most of the loans have been paid off. Much investment was made into infrastructure improvement, as new water pumps and a new oil power plant were brought on-line. Also, the Floreat City Subway was opened to keep traffic flowing smoothly in the ever expanding dense urban core; currently the subway in confined to inside the monorail loop, but with stations near monorail stops at either end to increase possibilities for intermodal transport, as the subway is to complement the monorail, not compete with it.

Few changes were made to South Floreat, though some of the industrial areas were rezoned to allow for more dense development. (no pic)

Apparently they are a way to bury your transportation systems under ground without a hill side.

I have not figured them out yet, they are not core game but rather from the pluggins at the beginning of the thread.

I've only had limited success with them. What I've done is:

Put down two hole diggers in a straight line, separated by a few spaces.
Make a two-square long road, rail, whatever going into and out of the diggers, like they're the entrance to a tunnel. When you make the road, the land will drop going into the digger.
Bulldoze the digger and road.
Connect the two depressions. If you went deep enough, a tunnel should appear.

Like I said, I've only gotten them to work sometimes...other times it seems like they don't go deep enough to actually trigger the tunnel.

Elmwood 30
http://apolyton.net/upload/view.php...lmwood_2030.rar

Most of the city is still rural, which is conspicuously visible when compared to the four neighbors.

Regional population is well past the half million mark. We may make it into the 7 digit range on the next five.

All but 5 tiles have been developed. The five remaining are:
East 2 and East 3 ocean tiles
Big Ocean tile
South Ocean tile
Southwest corner

Will we be seeing some artificial islands someday?

Things are heading up in Downtown despite an office market crash. More rich and middle class residents are moving in, with the Foodvale Twin Towers the new tallest in town.

Many low-income residents have also moved in, as evident by the residential Hotel Ohnoe two blocks north, one of nearly ten such buildings around the area.

With land getting pricey in Foodvale/Thousand Elms, a second core has been started in the Fishbowl area near the coast.

Studying the lessons of our western neighbor, bus-only streets have been implemented to great success, being far cheaper to operate than subways of equal capacity. Meanwhile a new baseball field has been every home run hitters dream, with nothing but water at the far end of the right outfield.

Hole diggers are easiest to use on flat maps where the water level has been lowered.

I've used the tunnel diggers a fair bit in my cities, I also use the ground lifter a little, it is often easier to raise a stretch of land then tunnel through it than to lower the tunnel. You are actually allowed to then lower the land the tunnel goes through - just don't touch the entrances. Sometimes it's best to use both diggers and raiser, you start by lowering both ends, then figure out what parts in between are too low and raise them with the ground lifter.

Also if you want a sunken tunnel on uneven terrain it helps to use a much deeper hole, like the monorail hole digger to lay a railway tunnel.

Ohnoes '30

This term was mostly uneventful, as the Beloved Dictator spent most of his time at his home atop the Obsidian Cliffs. Most action in Ohnoes consisted of increasing land values via city beautification, in order to help counter the office slump and encourage High Tech to replace the remaining pockets of Manufacturing Industry.

A small raised mall was built above the main avenue, home to mostly commercial services.

Ohnoes has very nearly ran out of land. The 'open' land that remains must mostly remain undeveloped in order to maintain some green space. It is probable that new suburbs will be built to the south-west.

The second suburb of Oh Noes, wedged into the very south-west corner of the world!

Owie River '30

The settlement consists of a large high-tech park and a small holiday community. Residents can expect to live to over 90, provided they don't wander off into the forest and get eaten by a ferocious bear.
The windmills scare the bears away!

ok...i cracked, i couldn't take it any more, browsing this thread for minutes on end searching for the right savegames...

So i've created this:
http://lemmy.redial.net/simcity/kitakyushu/upload.php

It's a simple upload feature, every user can upload a file to it and associate a year with it. When a user uploads a new file, their old one is overwritten. It lists all the uploaded files associated with the user. The number at the end in parenthesis is the year.
Maximum file size is 20mb, and i've been told that there is oogles of bandwidth available.

So, if you're interested in using this instead of hiding the saves throughout this thread and forcing the poor non-PLUS users to go through go.php for almost every city we download , let me know and i'll PM you a username and password....or you can PM me with a desired user/pass.

Note: My '30 save is already hosted there.
