This thread reminds me of the famous Douglas Adams analogy...

We, the creators of tools, technology, ideas and the rest of it, are designers. To design we need a reason and a pre-conception. We cannot take the same logic of "so who built this then?" and "what it's for?" to something we didn't create.. i.e. a universe.

Ok, but seriously, I have actually figured out the answer on my own. This at first may be complicated for you to comprehend, but if you just simplify your thinking, you should grasp it.
First of all, the universe is unlimited in size, there is no "nothing" on the outside of the universe.
And let me also point out that nothing, can not actually be nothing.
The universe infinitely exists in both time and space. There was no beginning and there will be no end.
Why? Well it's simple; since it is impossible for a 'nothingness' to exist, only the opposite can be true.
So therefore, there can not have been a beginning, and there can not be an end.
And, just a side note for those God believers. Existence IS God.

Disagree a little - the universe is of limited size, though it is expanding. It's the nothingness surrounding it that are of unlimited size.

? How is that logical or not? Logic is inference based upon facts. "Nothing exists" is a postulate that is not more logical than its opposite,"something exists". Where do you see something illogical in the existance of something?

Not really. If you define universe as "all that is", then these theories just apply to a subset of the universe, probably the part of the whole that we can see/reach/observe.
