Wal Mart Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

I saw a show about Wal Mart the other day, but it seemed a bit one-sided in favor of the company. What do you lot think about them? I've heard some horror stories about them not paying their suppliers and treating their employees badly.

A thread about Walmart. This should be interesting.

Walmart is wanting to come to a small City very near me. Alot of folks are very upset and are fighting tooth and nail to keep them out. Alot of people here just don't like Walmart for various reasons.

Anyway it seems that the City only wants new growth like that on the west side of town. Why, because its in the citys best interest. But Walmart wants their store on the east side. If the City resists, Walmart will then take their case to a higher authority. I can see a big battle brewing. Walmart doesn't take no for an answer.

I can literally count the number of times I've set foot in a Walmart on one hand. I've felt like I needed a shower after I left each time.

No doubt they'll be taking full advantage of Eminent Domain laws as newly interpreted by the SC.

Wal-mart is what's wrong with todays world.

forget anything about morality or problems between the west and the islam world.

the number 1 problem in the world is Wal-Mart.

I'm convinced of this.

*Ninot has been boycotting WalMart for a year and a half now*

I have a generally favorable view of Wal Mart. It would be nice to have them here in the city because they have low prices, but the union cartels and unionized grocery store chains use corrupt politicians to keep them out.

I doubt that's really the case. Wal Mart's business model is to build big box stores in relatively low rent, quazi-(or actual)suburban areas. They tend to like mid-sized towns and/or suburbs. You wouldn't find too many Wal Marts in the inner city anywhere.

ASDA bags now have "A part of the Walmart family" on the side. I wish my family was a billionaire multinational. I certainly wouldn't be posting nonsense here if that was the case. Well, maybe I would, if only to tell you all about my extravagant hi-jinks with the Miami Heat dancers.

Personally, I don't quite like Wal-Mart. Their relations to labour, while it IS their own business to run, means that I'm less likely to shop there when I have alternatives.

For example: in the Atlanta area, where we live, there's no Costco nearby--so while I'm not overjoyed at it, I can understand why our family would have a Sam's Club account.

However, in Chicago, where I do have a choice between Costco and Sams, I personally have an account with Costco (which I share with my roommates.)

You have heard wrong. Wal Mart has a perfect record with paying its suppliers the agreed rates. Every Wal Mart supplier will tell you this, they pay their bills on time and in full, while dealing with other large retailers is usually a fiasco.

Exactly. While my Libertarian tendencies shy away from supporting any sort of legal/government restriction on how businesses do their thing, and while I personally don't exactly hold labor organizations in that high regard, any company that does right by its employees as well as its customers automatically gets bonus points--and usually, my money.

Home Hardware and Home Depot I have no problem with, as they specialize in something and need to be kinda big to house some of the things they have.

I dislike Canadian Tire alot, because they have absolutely horid customer service (atleast where I live) and seem to just wanna get your money in alot of ways. Only reason i ever shop there is cuz i have a friend who works in the paint department. He helps me pick good paints.

Zellers is almost as bad as Walmart, but atleast around here they seem to limit themselves to where there is already strip malls, and i've never heard horror stories about their employees or anything.

Suppliers and Walmart Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Walmart really beats up on suppliers to negotiate the prices and payment terms they want. In some cases, they have driven their supplier's margins to almost 0. However, once the terms are set, Walmart follows them to the letter (e.g. net 30 days are electronically deposited on the 30th day).

I may be wrong, but I thought they were owned by a French company. But I looked it up, and that doesn't seem to be the case. Too bad, I liked them better when they were French.

Those places are already saturated with Wal Marts, so they are now trying to expand into the cities.

I take negative things said about Wal Mart with a grain of salt. Mainly, I think it's Wal Mart's competitors and the unions propagandizing against the company.

i emailed a letter of complaint to Walmart

they replied with exactly what you said there in the 2nd paragraph.

Didn't provide much to rebuff my complaint. Simply said "The competitors are out to get us".

Actually, they very clearly said it was the small-business owners trying to reduce their profits.

Like i'm gonna have sympathy for that.
