200 years after the fall of the Galactic Republic, the remains of the Jedi Archives were unearthed. Much speculation had surrounded the nature of the precipitous collapse of the Jedi council, and historians eagerly awaited their prize. The first records to be recovered, was the log of former Jedi Master, Ben Kenobi. Here is his account, starting from the end of the official records.
After the death of Master Yoda, much of the council lost their strength and will to continue on. One could walk the entire Jedi temple, and not meet another Jedi, for most lay sullenly in their quarters. Under this atmosphere of fear and despair, the slow destruction of the Jedi council continued, with the death of Serra Keto The council, deliberating over the facts revealed in the recent deaths thought that the killer must be small and skilled in the force, enough so to overcome many pre-eminent masters. Since Serra Keto fulfilled the size requirement, the Jedi sullenly culled yet another member of their order to staunch their slow decay.

No sooner had the Council condemned Keto, did the death of yet another within the Temple ensue. Most curiously, rather than yet another Jedi, Mace Windu found Count Dooku dead in his cell, shot by a blaster to the shoulder. He showed no signs of struggle, no doubt expecting the confinement to protect him, even as it constrained. Most interestingly, is that the blaster shot did not penetrate the field, rather it seemed to be shot from inside the field. Therefore, the killer must have either known the security code to release Count Dooku, or have access to the code through access to the archives.
It is strange, that such an event, the total destruction of the Sith should be met with such trepidation. Long had the Jedi strove to be free from their hated influence, however, perhaps it is very true that for good to thrive requires the possibility of evil.

the long departed
Despite the fact that I probably won't survive this dogpile, I say it's DrSpike. I know I've scoffed at the idea it was R2D2, but all this stuff about 'trusted person' and being shot in the shoulder is increasingly convincing.
