LOST - have you seen the following?

Cash Reward offered for safe return of one small, mistreated young puppy called "sense of fun" Sense of Fun, and also her sister "Sense of Humour" where last seen about 30 turns ago, when most, if not all, members of this forum started to forget that they are playing a game, and are not, in reality, the minister of war for a horde of barbarians, nor are they the Ambassador to the Great Banana Empire.

Sense of Fun was last seen cowering under the sofa, whimpering and trying not to get kicked as the Mighty General of 80% of his own mind tried to pull the hair of Grand Admiral Goober of the Assyrian Fleet.

If you have any information on where these two poor lost dogs might be, please post it below.

Indeed, this game does suck horribly. If someone can fix that, in addition to Moons cash reward I will PM a dancing banana right to your inbox.

Hmm. You could swap half your team members to different teams. Draw lots for it. It might give everybody different perspectives... and stop worrying about tiny faux pas.

It's just a game. We should be having fun. I am having fun and I sure hope the others are enjoying the game too.

No need to take anything personally. All "personal attacks" are just part of the game, role-playing, simply fun.

Just a lurker's observation here, but "roleplaying" can come out kind of hard in the posted word. I'd like to think that we are all friends here.

Sorry to intrude, but you guys are into something that should be ultimate fun. You have to work TOGETHER to have fun. Working for yourself splits you apart.

Be enemies in the game but be cool to each other. Words hurt.

Way too philosophical. Apologies.

Take care of each other.

Another lurker idea for getting the game onto a better track:

Role-play a succession in leadership for each of the countries and do a reset on National Objectives. Is it really to everyone's interest, for having fun, to eliminate Babylon so early in the contest? If the game is about winning, the answer is probably yes. If it is about hanging out with your friends, then possibly you want to keep them.

If everybody agreed to change their in-game personalities it would give folks a chance to learn from the harshness of some of the early going and get onto a smoother track.

Basically, beating up on somebody and then crowing about it in a public forum is not much fun for the receiving party and likely to engender ill will. That kind of stuff is why I stopped attempting to play those RTS games on line. Ugh.

Just more wool-gathering.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Let me explain something here.

When I am being the part of a Mongol Ambassador from a few thousand years ago and you are being the part of a leader of another ancient civ and we are at war, then I doubt you will like me a whole lot.

You see, I was told that this demogame was to be full of "great people...lots of fun roleplaying",

What I have found is a bunch of poor sports and whiners. Truly sad. I was under the impression that I would be able to play this game with not only some of the best players in the world, but some of the nicer ones as well.

I have heard it said that people have taken things personally. My question is: Why? Don't you understand that it is a game? Is your ego so big that you can't take a little roleplaying? I syour self esteem so tied up in a demogame that you are willing to discount people just because they are trying to have fun?

I am greatly saddened by some of the reactions here. I have posted many times out of character how much I like everyone I have had contact with here and how much respect I have for their abilities and position within this community. I have received several personal and derogatory responses that were also out of character.

The net of this is that I now understand many things about the gameplay styles that I did not before. I will be happy to change both my tenor and tone, but I am who I am. Hopefully, as I am around awhile, you will take the time to get to know me some.

You forgot to mention that he is also an amateur psychologist (or psychiatrist, whatever) Thanks to his roleplaying though I have only known him by his posts in the public forums where he is an untrustworthy jingoist who freely imputes the character of strangers and thinks a joke that has to be explained can still be funny.

I would choose a different opponent in future games not because there is some fault with my Id, Ego or the other one, but because I can’t stand reading his posts.

Sorry you feel that way. And sorry you are so very short sighted. I am curious as to what qualifies you to take the moral high ground? You accuse me of being an amatuer psycologist, yet seek to condem me on little to no information to who I am. You must remember that opinions being formed is a two way street. So far, I am sad to say, yours of me is better than mine of you. However, I am willing to let bygones be bygones and give a level playing field to understanding each other better. Are you big enough to do that? I wonder...

Thank you for trying to explain, PLATO, even if you really are not breaking out of your own perspective when you demean others as sore losers. Probably the most frequent insult I've heard in DGs.

I will be happy to try to play with my perspective should I initially find something offensive, but I am who I am.

I agree with what you are saying about perspective, but realize it cuts both ways. If people do not like what you are posting, it is not necessarily their problem.

Fun is defined differently. Sportsmanship is defined differently...

I view Civ much as I would view a game of chess or of tennis. I am here to play. Unlike those two games, the multiple sides introduces an element of diplomacy in to the game, yes; and I may perhaps roleplay a little so far as pleasentries (EG blessings of Inanna are a somewhat common thing for Babylon to use as hellos or goodbyes). But I view the game as the main thing. I do not see roleplay as an integral part of diplomacy or any communication for that matter, and because of that, I often see little more than the player. I do not see two different identities, the player and their character. I can in formalized settings (e.g. UnOrthOdOx's stories in the PTWDG1) but in a diplomatic chat or in random public forum threads, I will read a poster's post as being from that poster, not some character in their imagination.

I think a good example for this situation would be the behavior I saw in PTW ISDG chat. A certain crowd, such as Master Zen, Trip, and BigFree, would joke around with insulting each other, their Moms, etc. I almost never gave or take in these rounds, they seemed happy to go at it, so I was happy to let them. But if they had dragged me in to it, I would have been quite angry with them for insulting me. I do not joke around about insulting someone's Mom. If I tell you she's an X, then I think she is. I think this situation is analagous. You are assuming that the things you are used to playing around with, used to treating casually, will be the same outside Horde culture. Newsflash: people are different. What you may think is funny others will be offended by, what you think will be taken jokingly may not be. Deal with it.

While the PTWDG1 Roleplay team was as much a part of the game-related fire thrown around there as anyone, I do think you should take some pages from their book elsewhere. Flames from their members were over game situations like everyone else: I do not recall them trying to drag the other teams in to their roleplay. We all knew it might effect their diplomacy, but it was all a very internal matter without trying to get others involved in it if they weren't interested.

Another load of old crap dont any of you people get it at all!!

Plato has not insulted any one of you ever unless personally attacked by one of you lot.

The posts he makes in character are just that in character as is the nature of a foreign minister of a nation in an alternate reality !

Really you all need to take a holiday somewhere nice and relaxing so when you get back you stand a better chance of differentiating between reality and roleplay.

This is all a load of crap, some people just blarting because things arent going so nice for them and have no other way to deal with it but to find a target for their petty abuse.

By profession im a builder so no big ologies here just plain straight talk, some of the down right insults levelled at Plato here are a disgrace, no an absolute disgrace !! i was the focus of some of this **** a few weeks back and I lost my rag back then. Plato i commend the way youve managed to hold you temper toward these jerks.

Any of you got in my face like this on my scaffold on my site id kick your ANUS all the way back to town !!

Hmm, I thought I'd drop by and see how things were going. It appears that absolutely nothing has changed. It kind of makes one wonder why he thought this game would be fun in the first place. Oh well. I'll just have to remember not to get involved in the next one. Better for me, and I'm sure it will be better for all the rest of you.

As for Chrisius...perhaps you don't get it. Not everyone likes to play a game to get insulted by others. Some people play just to have fun. If your team's way of having fun is to insult others, then go play amongst your team and leave it out of your dealings with those who don't find that fun.

Goodbye again to all you nice people who like to insult each other and couch it behind claims of "roleplaying", when the other party isn't roleplaying.

[sarcasm] Well. this is going well. [/sarcasm]

[cr4p]
Look. I think the basic problem is that some people (like me) were confused when confronted with heavy role play mixed with OOC comments. Tone is a very difficult thing to read. Almost all of us are using pseudonyms. On top of that some are writting in different characters for different games. It is confusing and thus more confusion.

As for the people on this forum, I hold no grudges. It's a game. PLATO and Paddy seem like fine guys outside of this game. In EoD, they are real SOBs, but that is the "maniacal dictator" role they are playing.

I just think a heads-up on the heavy use of role play would have gone a long way to prevent these flame wars. I hope everyone can get past this.

As for being a poor sport. I don't mind losing. Babylon's in trouble now. That gives me a fun role to play in the game.
