Well I talked to the recruiter and have to take time off from my job to take the ASVAB next week. I'm going to join as enlisted, then hopefully move to officer training school.

I wanted to work for the government since I was small. And I geared my work experience to work for the city and state government, but since its all about who you know (and I'm not an asskisser), the A.F. is probably the best thing for me.

Relatively still young and want to work for the government. That, and I want to serve others (that's why I wanted to get into the local governmen i.e. social worker). But oh well...

Next week I'm taking the ASVAB. Just gotta get time off for the test.

I work for a small compnay owned by a married couple (though I hear they are separated ). I prefer small businesses because your hard work gets recognized. Just the other day they called me the best tech they have. I never get that at bigger places (even if I am the best).

It's the same in the military. In the navy my favourite command was SIMA, Pascagoula, Mississippi. yeah mississippi ain't great. But The command was only a few hundred people. You really get recognized for your work. I also preferred the USS GUAM over the USS Enterprise. I got a navy achievment metal on the Guam (though I'm still not sure why ). Aircraft carriers suck . You have to wait in line for an hour just to eat.

High school math and English are what you need, buddy. They have extra stuff to see if you're already knowledgable in, say, being a mechanic that will alter your score in a tiny way.

You forget that I haven't been in high school in a very long time. And I've studied a lot of things that aren't even related to this stuff.

They had bio-chem stuff, physics, and Alg 2 stuff. I haven't touched Alg 2 since sophmore year in high school. Most of the things I've learned are the statistics and mathematical sums of prison budgets and prisoner costs....as well as behavior modification techniques.

Well, I could try. But the nearest A.F. Officer recruiter is in California somewhere.

That, and I'd rather go enlisted first-then go to Officer Training School. Pay my dues before I become an officer. Even though going straight to OTS would mean I would get more money and career would move faster...but I'd rather get respect from others by earning the officer rank.

just remember it's not a sure shot to become officer. You have to work hard and be the hardest worker. and all that stuff.

true that. Well, thanks for the heads up. Yeah, I plan on busting my ass to become an officer. But if I don't...well, then that will be my failure. I'll let you all know what comes up next week.

Some of my GOP friends from uni (surprisingly, you still have those in academia that is infested by commie pinkos ) joined ROTC when while still at school and a few went on to become officers after graduation. Some went to USAF and the rest to USN. Nobody went to the army, though.

yeah ROTC is a good way to go. But I believe you have to do that while still in college.
